Contact - emails not shown

Hi

I recently had to import contacts and emails onto a new laptop running opera 10.51

I have some contacts whose emails no longer appear alongside their contact profile - in fact, someone else's emails appear for them.

Can I fix this?

BasilBear.

Edit the adr file you have and delete all the m2indexid lines in it. Then, in Opera, delete all your contacts in the contacts panel and reimport the adr file.

Thank you my friend.

Out of interest, is this knowledge available within Opera documentation, or have you acquired it elsewhere?

Best wishes,

BB

It's a bug (DSK-292134) that I found and filed very recently before you posted. So, the problem is known now, but no fix yet.

It's not in the documentation anywhere. You'd just have to know about the bug to avoid it.

I'm not sure I have the problem so let me know whether I should open a new thread, thanks.

I've followed your lead, cleaned the m2indexid lines and re-imported my contacts. Some contacts, though, still go on not showing all sent/received messages, even with the 'to and from' feature turned on.

An example: I have 'all accounts' selected on the mail window. I then click on the contact panel and select, say, Jonathan's. I then get 4 messages: 3 sent, 1 received. However, if I run a search on the mail panel with Jonathan's exact email address, I get 15 messages.

Can you think of a reason for that? The cleaning didn't seem to solve that...

TIA, have a good day!

Go in the properties for that contact, change the name a tad bit (add a 'z' to it or something) and apply/ok out etc. Then, go back in and change it back. See if that helps.

Also, take note of all 15 of John's messages. Are all of them from/to the same address? (Some ISPs have @short.com that you can use instead of the normally @reallylong.com. In this case, you have to add the other address to the "other email addresses field" on the notes tab in the contact's properties.)

Also, for the contact's message list, click on the view button on the mail toolbar, goto show and make sure "show sent" etc. is set. You might want to make sure "Show filtered" is checked too.

Thanks, Burnout426, for the suggestions. Please see coments below.

No luck with this one, no new messages showed after altering it back to the correct email address.

Some luck here: 3 of the messages only had John's email address on the body and, although they are related to the topic that was being discussed, there were not really from/to his address.[/quote]

I have no 'show sent' option available on the View menu (read, trash, spam, mailing lists, newsgroups, filtered, and feeds are all checked). I'm running Opera 10.10, build 1893 on an XP SP3 machine, and it's an IMAP account. Would that make any difference?

IMAP shouldn't make a difference. But, I forget. Does 10.10 have a "from", "to', and "to and from" in the View button menu? If so, is it set to what you want? Do you have an IMAP folder set in the IMAP account's properties?

Did you try exporting your contacts to an adr file, deleting all contacts in the contacts panel and following these directions?

Yes, 'to and from' is selected.

Yes, that was the first procedure. In fact, I have done it twice. Results are still the same. I suspect indexing in M2 might be corrupted somehow.

I'm a bit lost here. Do you mean the 'Path to IMAP root folder' option on the Incoming tab for the account properties window? If that's what you mean, the answer is no, as the configuration tips I followed when setting this account explicitly told me not to do it.
I'll see if the clean install I'll perform over the week will help with this problem as well.
Anyway, thank you!

Sorry, I mean't "Do you have an IMAP Sent folder set in the IMAP account's properties?".

It could be.

Try creating a filter with these rules:
To header contains foo@example.com
or
From header contains foo@example.com

, and apply filter. Also make sure View -> Show -> Show Sent is set (if it's available).

I'm curious to see if the filter shows everything you think it should.

Well, if you start with a fresh mail folder, it should indeed fix everything. smile
