Missing 'O' icon, and system variables in context menus
A friend of mine has encountered quite a strange problem. It appeared form one day to another without any apparent system changes in between. The problem appeared in 10.51, and the problem didn't disappear with reinstall. Also upgrading to 10.52 had no effect.
The 'O' icon is missing, instead a blank space is where it used to be. Also a number of menu items have been replaced by Opera system variables. The browser functions normally, and all expected results from using the menus are normal.
She uses a Dell laptop with Vista home premium.
Uploading the screen dumps is currently unavailable due to http timeout, so I've uploaded the pictures to picasa. They can be seen here:

Well if nobody knows how to deal with this problem, perhaps some suggestions as to what to do next. Does this qualify as a bug?
Apparently your friend's installation is corrupted — maybe a missing or corrupted language file (that is used to create the menu and dialogue text from variables). The interface language can be changed in Preferences, General, Language. The language file for Danish is stored in the following folder (for a default installation). C:\Program Files\Opera\locale\da\
Another solution — rather than trying to diagnose exactly what went wrong — is to do a clean installation into a new folder.

Thanks for your response Pesala, I will try your suggestions, although I'm not fully convinced it will help, since I've already tried uninstalling and manually deleted all remaining Opera folders (user settings etc), before reinstalling Opera.
I'm suspecting that the problem is related to some dependency with a non Opera installed file. Ex a windows dll used by Opera. There are no third party firewall software (or similar security software) installed that could potentially interfere with system access. Only Avast anti virus.
Also the language files, should have nothing to do with the missing icons IMO, i.e. the Opera 'O' icon in the main UI, and also the ones missing in the context menus.
Anyways, I'll keep you updated on the results.

The skin doesn't look like the Opera standard skin — presumably it was designed for an earlier version, hence the missing icons. Look for a skin created for Opera 10.5

The installation of a new skin fixed the UI. And changing language to English fixed the text.
As a side note, I downloaded and replaced the danish language file, to no avail. Also the selected skin before the fix were either Opera Standard or Windows native. Both didn't work, and both should be the standard with installation. Also they still don't work, after the reinstall.
However, all is well with the new changes to UI and language, so I'll leave it at that
Thanks a bunch Pesala, great advice
