Is Opera 10.52 based off of Google Chrome?
Hello.Ever since upgrading to the latest version of Opera - Opera v10.52 - I can't help but notice that its very similar in both interface as well as speed to Google Chrome. I was just curious whether or not this version of Opera was based off of Google Chrome, being open source as well. If it is based off of Google Chrome (Chromium), than I must say bravo to the development team of Opera for creating something a lot better in both performance as well as features than Google Chrome.
Opera feels faster to me than Google Chrome, and of course is statistically faster than any other web browser. Whether or not it's faster than Google Chrome is debatable, but I believe it is. I read some articles online about a previous version being faster than Chrome, and when you first install Opera it brings you to a page advertising Opera as "the fastest web browser in the world" or something very similar to that.
And one thing that's really nice whether or not it's based off of Google Chrome is that it's NOT something owned/operated by Google. Google is bigger than you realize, and it'd be nice to actually go outside of something not reliant on Google. Furthermore, after watching two Google-conspiracy videos - The Beast File: Google & Google Evil Agenda - it really makes you think and rethink Google. In a brief thought, it is kind of scary to think that we all pretty-much rely on one company for all of our web-based needs, and after watching those videos, they are truly gathering so much information about you individually it's hard not to wonder whether or not that information can be abused one day.
Well, regardless of the answer, I would just like to know whether or not - out of pure curiosity - if the "new" Opera is based off of Google Chrome's / Chromium's source code. It's absolutely fantastic that there's a new alternative, as well as a competitor, to select & browse the web with. And, in regards to what was stated above about the Google-conspiracy theories, it's even better to have a real alternative/rival other than the big G.
Keep working hard and improving Opera.
You've finally gained your position back as a rivaling web browser. ( *remembers the old days using Opera with Google Ads*

You're a flippin' fool. It doesn't matter how long Opera has been in the game. Chrome came out before Opera could compete with Chrome and all of a sudden after Chrome's update Opera came out with an update with the look of Chrome and a performance very similar to Chrome, if not better. I was just asking Bubba.

??? Opera has always been able to compete with Chrome. Chrome just borrowed someone else's rendering engine (webkit) slapped a GUI around it and wrote a good javacript engine.
