Opera Voice doesn't install

When I enable opera voice it says it will download a 10 mb file, download bar starts and when it ends it just simply disappear. When I try again it does the same. How can I install it ?

They seem to be very firm in there resolve on the issue,

I had started a Thread with a poll in this section in a effort to get the Opera Management to reconsider there plans to drop support for Voice after Opera 10.10 (which by the way is the only version that voice will work in)

Only to have the Thread closed by Management as being Sensationalism. It was explained to me that IBM the 3th party vendor who originally developed the voice library had moved on to more fruitful projects and abandon Voice.

The Development Team had so many great new features with this Update ,That they did not want to redirect there resources to fix a feature that is maybe used by 2% of the Opera users on a regular basis.( It takes almost as much effort to make sure that voice works on every page as it does to fix all the Browser bugs themselves.)

I had to agree with there reasoning. Opera would not be as far along in it's Development as it is , had they not done this . For now the Only way to have text to speech ability in Opera is to roll back to version 10.10 or to buy compatible text to speech software ( ie,dragon speak, text to speech) there are many on the Internet some are free you just have to look.

Maybe one Day they will change there minds . ... fix it on a rainy day when they are slack on work... they have before. who knows, but they do seem to be firm on there stance this time.

Cheers!!

If Opera has made a business decision to drop VOICE support, that is their choice.

However, if that is the case, then all references to VOICE in the set up should be removed .

Also I would suggest that the forum topic (Accessibility & voice browsing) be removed.

It certainly does not look good to new users to try to implement a feature only to have it fail.

Voice is now working in 10.6 though you may need to make a few attempts to get it to start working with each session. It seems that the first attempt to use "speak" loads the voice libraries then perhaps the next or third attempt will start speaking. Not perfect yet, but better than removing it.

Note that voice has only never worked for Vista or later, hence the low priority of this issue.

Greeting ,

You might want to Note that the last post on this thread was in July of 2011. Opera has come a long way since then . the latest stable public version is Opera 11.61 which I am running at the moment and voice works in . I seemed that they found a developer that can work with voice and there has be no problems since . Users have even found a way to use opera voice in other programs on their system.

If you have already upgraded to Opera 11.61 then you could ether remove the voice file folder and re-install voice or do a clean install and install voice. remember that it will not work with out restarting Opera after installing . also you may need to reload a page for voice to focus . I just open tab in background and voice works every time ..

If you do go for a clean install here is a cool too that will make it easy for you that the developers use to move all their stuff too their new copy.

Disco Stu's Opera import & export tool

When you do a clean install during the un-install Opera will ask you if you want to delete private data . say yes . Second when using the above tool to save you stuff make sure Opera is closed or you will corrupt you profile folder.

Another important note to consider, if you are upgrading from any version at or below 11.52,... update first them do a clean install the mail format changed, so after you update there is no rollback . older versions don't read the new mail format .

cheers!!
