How can I disable wrap search?

Hi,

I used Google and looked in opera:config but I couldn´t find anything on how to prevent Opera from starting the search from the top of a page again when the end of the document had been reached.

How can I do this?

Select some text on the page, then use F3 or ctrl g to search next.

Instead of finding the first occurrence on the page, it finds the next one.

That´s not the problem. Actually, the problem is that Opera continues to find the search term over and over again (so called "wrap searching").

It should stop on reaching the last found search term on a page. Or at least ask if the user wants Opera to continue the search from the top again.

If you look at the right-hand end of the find in page toolbar you will see a message that the end of the document has been reached.

I agree this is not very helpful as most users won't notice it. A beep would be better if a search is not found or if the end of the page is reached.

AFAIK there is no way to change the find in page behaviour. This is something for the wish-list. ]

Yes, that message is indeed not that helpful. Anyway, I have hidden all toolbars besides the address bar, so I couldn´t ever notice it anyhow.

Thanks for the link. I will add my request there.

When pressing F3 repeatedly, your eyes are busy looking for the proper hit. Displaying a warning next to the screen will typically not be noticed by the user. It should be necessary to press another key than F3 once the end has been reached, so that you don't search endlessly in vain.

I hereby suggest two ways to solve this:

1) The most simple solution would be to show a little pop-up saying "Search reached the end". This pop-up should not respond to pressing F3.

2) Another solution would be to display the message "Please press Shift-F3 to continue from the top" - thus forcing the user to actively do something else than pressing just F3 in order to start over.

Could one of these be implemented? It would save me a lot of time.

That's already used for "Find Previous."

I still like the beep best of all, but feature requests belong in The Wish List — they won't get noticed by the developers in the support forum.
