Wiping email draft with a single press & no undo? (Ctrl+U - Clear)

the default hotkey of ctrl+u ("Clear") seems to have an irreversible effect in the mail compose window: simply wipes all of the email with no undo to bring the deleted text back.

(since the opera mail is normally pretty sturdy and foolproof (what with its automatically saved drafts and tabs etc) i often allow myself to take a considerable time to compose an email, having the draft hanging in its tab for days. i just lost one such huge email that took me days to put together in a single accidental stroke - while composing in html i instinctively hit ctrl+u to underline a selected line...)

Yes. Not a great idea to have a shortcut for that. Ctrl U was the default for the 9.2 compatible keyboard. It was changed for 9.5 or later. If you use a customised keyboard based on the 9.2 compatible keyboard or earlier then edit the shortcut to make it a bit more difficult to do e.g. ctrl shift delete or similar.

well, i simply deleted that shortcut altogether. (who needs such a command anyways? i only occasionally find myself in need of deleting all text written, and even then it's second nature for me to just ctrl+a/del it.)

still, the main problem is that the action isn't undoable.
