Universal File Manager

I would like opera to be a universal file manager much like KDE's Konqueror
Right now I am using opera to open files because it is much faster than the normal file mangers
I use the quick search using " . " and type in the name of the folder followed by Enter and I am in repeating this process until I reach the desired file takes much less time than the usual file browsers

now I want it to show Icon views and thumbnails and make other adjustments in order to be more like a file browser and explorer

Thank you.

You could adjust the stylesheet, but other than that I'm afraid there's little you can do.

I guess you did not use konqueror
okay, konqueror is a universal file manager, ftp client, web browser, text editor with integrated file indexing service you can view pictures, videos and even some koffice files, it previews almost anything, you can hover the mouse over a mp3 file to listen to it.

it contains anything you can think of the concerns files but it's sole problem was the speed it was so slow to be a default file manger, and being slow is a thing that Opera can never tolerate. smile

well it is something I WISH it becomes true in Opera

I don't think this function need to be implemented.
After all opera is a browser, not a file manager. You have plenty fast file managers. Try Total Commander.
Opera is a browser, and the dev team need to stay focused on updating exist browsing features and add functions related to Internet browsing and not computer browsing !

You can adjust stylesheets to alter the display of folders in Konqueror? Anyway, I was referring to what you could do in Opera, right now. Konqueror is interesting, though for my taste it can definitely be too integrated; I prefer Dolphin.

dont want bloatware - if one makes all the requests in one program, its gonna be operating system, no browser.
filemanager, downloadmanager, videoplayer, musicplayer and so on - damn that sounds like.. internetexplorerface of win98?

-1, opera is there for my internet needs, not for file management.

+1 for the unite app
I shall try it when I have some time smile
and I am still using opera as it is for file browsing (which will make my temp explode)

ps: @Frenzie; I also prefer dolphin for daily use but I really like konqueror

I don't like Konqueror's way. Still I think that Web browsing and file management are very different task. By the way I'd prefer light version of opera which also will not contain unite, widgets, mail and irc. And for people who like so many different things in one application there should be Opera suite which will same as Opera now.

Opera already has some file management built in. All this talk of bloat is nonsense — adding options to cut and paste or delete files is not going to make Opera bloated. Let's have FTP file management too so that we can upload files to our web servers.

how about "Opera OS"? as some kind of very basic bootable browser version? for the "fast browsing" + minimal features?
most of the time its just some websites+saving some files (w8ing for some torrents^^), so why waiting for the heavy OS to boot?

"in a sense" is not downloadable for PC^^ - fo rnow - i have booted my PC, started opera, am browsing for an hour or two, and shutting it down - i barely use anything else - so why am i supposed to wait for 5 minutes for the whole os to boot?

If you boot into some flavor of Linux with a light-weight window manager (like IceWM or some such) things can be pretty fast. p

About half the time it takes to boot here is the POST screen if I boot into something light. If I boot into something heavy (i.e. Gnome or KDE) the boot time pretty much doubles.

There are third-party applications to get mouse gestures all over Windows if that's what you mean? I believe StrokeIt is fairly popular. I'm more of a keyboard person.
