Strict mode is equivalent to standards mode in other browsers. It simply means that the website told the browser that it was a standards-based website via the DOCTYPE and to render it appropriately. The opposite of strict mode is quirks mode. Quirks mode is meant for older websites with no DOCTYPE.
Simply, "Strict Mode/Quirks Mode" and your problem aren't likely related.
