Can't agree. I was happily using 10.51 and then the autoupdate replaced it with 10.52 yesterday. All of a sudden my internet connection (via an office network) got constipated and instead of 4500 down and 650 up I was getting 1250 down and 95 up. Modem speeds! The tests were done using www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk, which I have used for several years and I have comparison logs.
I cross checked with other PCs on the system ande their readings remained at 4500/650. My own laptop running Vista Business was giving 1250/95 with Opera and almost simultaneously 4500/650 with IE7. So I concluded it was the Opera update.
I looked at these fora yesterday and found threads confirming there was a problem and that the fix in form of 10.53 was available in pre-release. This morning my laptop updated to 10.53. Guess what. After 10 minutes of browsing, exactly the same problems as wtih 10.52. Complete loss of speed. Shut it down and restart and it's fine for a short time and then it fades away again.
Task Manager shows Opera using 50% of CPU and 123,000k of memory. That ain't right. Regrettably, boys and girls, you've introduced a serious gremlin. It's a serious hindrance to my business which involves internet transactions. Can't be doing with that with 90 kbps upload so I will have to IE7 to make my world go round. Someone needs a big spanner and quickly.

And I just left the program open on my desktop doing nothing apart from checking emails and an occasional BBC News page refresh. And it gets slower and s-l-o-w-e-r. Task Manager shows a gradually increasing grab of CPU and increasing use of memory. And there are all these Opera/cach/sesn files. What are they about? Hundreds of them.
Just tested it against Google 5 on my netbook. There is a speed increase for me with Opera 10.53.....and it's killing Chrome. On Sunspider, where smaller is better, Opera scored 1322 against Chrome's 1675.

Opera 10.51 was already crazy fast for me. I installed 10.53 earlier today and it feels even faster. And I got some more points in Peacekeeper

Do you have the latest Chrome installed and could you compare it with Opera using Peacekeeper?

I had Chrome 4.1.249.1064 installed and when I tested it earlier this week (against 10.51) it was slower. I don't have the testing versions of Chrome 5 (too unstable).

Because the whole 10.5* has been a bit of a debacle.
Says you. I say that 10.50 has been a very good example of accelerated development. 10.50 is a massive improvement in every way over 10.10
