Opera 10.5x crashes on startup if you have iGlasses installed
We have discovered that a crash on startup that some of you have seen is somehow related to the application iGlasses. If you have this application installed, please remove Opera from the list of Supported Applications in the iGlasses Manager, as a temporary workaround. This should solve the problem while we investigate further and look for a proper fix.
Thanks to all the people who have submitted reports and provided us with clues.
Tiger users beware! I have spent the past four hours trying to remedy the damage caused by this morning's upgrade from Opera 10.10 to Opera 10.53 on my dual-boot MDD G4 PPC running Tiger 10.4.11. After installing the update, Opera would not open. Clicking on the "O" in the Application Folder or in the Dock yielded no action at all.
You have said that there is a conflict with Opera 10.5.3 and the application iGlasses and have recommend removing Opera as an approved application in the iGlasses scheduler or uninstalling it. Unchecking Opera from within iGlasses did nothing for me...the new Opera 10.53 still would not start.
Fortunately, I had week-old Retrospect, SuperDuper, and Carbon Copy Cloner backups of my hard drive. Trying to restore only all files containing the word "Opera" did not work and I was forced to restore my *entire hard drive*!!!
This will teach me to do daily (not weekly) backups and to *always* do a backup before installing an updated Opera. This is such a disappointment because I love Opera and have used it exclusively for years! I like the combined browser/mail-client aspect. So, using that backup, I've reverted back to Opera 10.10 and everything is just fine.
Needless to say, I'm afraid to touch my MacBook running OSX 10.5.7.
I'm still an Opera supporter; I'll just stick with 10.10 until the bugs get fixed in the new version. Thank heaven for backups!!!!!!

Specs: Mac dual-boot MDD G4 running OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.4.11, Opera 10.10, external iSight, MacBook running 10.5.8, iPod Classic.
Update: Now Opera 10.10 no longer opens. It worked fine Friday after I used a week-old backup to completely restore my entire hard drive. I turned the Mac off, went out of town, and returned the following day to find that Opera 10.10 was also dead. (Nope, no one broke in and messed with my Mac.) This is ridiculous and I hope someone will do something about getting this right. I, too, use a Power Mac and Tiger 10.4.11...could it be that the new version was built for intel and Leopard?Specs: Mac dual-boot MDD G4 running OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.4.11, Opera 10.10, external iSight, MacBook running 10.5.8, iPod Classic.
We have a new development snapshot which should fix most of the problems users have had with startup crashers including the iGlasses crash.
http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2010/05/05/startup-crashes-be-gone
1. Backup your computer (for example using Time Machine)
2. Download the snapshot and run it
3. If it works properly, try right-clicking Opera and choose Show Package Contents
4. Go to Contents/Resources/ and delete the file PrefsSuffix
5. Run it again (this will upgrade your install, bringing back bookmarks and settings)
Please report back if any of your are still encountering problems.
