If you have just a blank page with elements that have not loaded, pressing the stop button should load the page minus the unloaded elements. Check your site preferences by right clicking and selecting Edit Site Preferences. You need to be accepting cookies and delete the current Google cookies and reload the page.
You could also try renaming the cookie and preference files. By renaming the files, you can always go back to them if creating new files does not solve your problem. You can find their paths by going to Help > About Opera opera:about. The cookie file is named cookies4.dat; try renaming it to ccookies4.dat. The preference file is named operaprefs.ini. Close Opera and rename the files. A new file with the default settings will be created when you restart Opera.

Never get to the unloaded elements if i understand you correctly. Just click the sign in to go to the login page and it goes into an endless loop. Never leaves that original page.
Accepting all cookies. and on the edit site pref. have tried every combination within cookies, content, etc. (perhaps except the correct one). Have deleted all cookies and started from scratch, delete on exit. Will try your second suggestion later. Though i have my doubts about it solving the problem.

Finally solved my problem in the following manner.
Previously had deleted all google cookies, deleted temporary cookies and cache through the tools/Delete private data. However i did not close and reopen browser and the problem persisted.
Yesterday however, repeated the above procedures, but closed and reopened browser and the issue was resolved.
Thanks to choope for his time and patience.

Clear the cookies as you said (O-menu, settings, delete private data) . Then, close opera. Rename the cookies4.dat to ccookies and operaprefs.ini to ooperaprefs (as suggested). Open opera again. Close opera. Delete new cookies4 and operaprefs and Rename the other files back to cookies4 and operaprefs. Re-open opera. Things start working again.

Try enabling TLS v1.1
Preferences-> Advanced-> Security-> Security Protocols-> Enable TLS 1.1
edit:
additional info...
I found that solution from this thread http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=543941 . My CPU usage was spiking to 50% (dual-core machine). This had happened before on 10.52 and was able to solve it by renaming the cache folder and letting opera rebuild it. However this time with 10.53, that process did not work. I had to reset my operaprefs.ini.
After doing that I found that I could not access mail.google.com. www.google.com worked, but hitting sign-in would not work at all. In the 100% cpu thread, Rijk mentioned that TLS 1.1 should be enabled. Tried that and google login pages now work for me.
The first 5 (two 0 bit & three Anonymous) ciphers should not be enabled. However, if you went to a site that tried to use them, you would get a warning.
Some other things to try: Empty the cache [Preferences > Advanced > History]; also search for any additional cache folders that may have been created. Did you rename your cookies4.dat and start with a clean slate? Could content blocking be to broad or any Firewall zones blocking access? Did you try renaming your preference file?

If none of the above work, do a clean install into a new directory. The default path is often \Program Files\Opera\; change it to something like \Program Files\Opera-10.5\ and then install. You could also try renaming the cookie and preference files. sadly, all done, but no go. sometimes restarting opera without any of the above would work, sometimes deleting everything as above and retrying wouldnt work at all. it's not 100% 'do this and that will happen'.
i was trying out the pre 10.53 betas as well to help troubleshoot the NSL issues.
it just doesnt make any sense - why does opera have issues in life with google's ssl whereas any other browser doesnt
this is 10.53 build 3374
it's just opera - other computers with other browsers work fine. even this computer with other browsers is fine - not having google working 100% is pretty much saying 'yeah we'd like to secede from the internet, k thx bye'

Wild shot in the dark: have you tried a different gmail account? Maybe some leftover cookies or something requiring different settings for your account?
