Opera and XMarks?

Sometimes in office or other places we are forced to use browsers different from Opera.
Opera Sync is great, but it only makes a synchronization between different installations of Opera. How about syncing our favorite browser with other ones? Asking this, the first thing I think to is XMarks, because it has already a good support from other 'major' browsers. It would be awesome if I could come back from the office and automatically sync the bookmarks I collected with the crappy IE with Opera!

(another user in this thread wonders if an integration with XMarks is possible)

The Opera Sync settings have this option: opera:config#Sync Data Provider - I would imagine, if the workings of this setting were at all documented, one could perhaps set up a 3rd party provider that was a gateway to XMarks, maybe even set up a Unite App as a provider.

I have no idea whether that setting even does anything at all though right now.

Your best chance is to ask the Xmarks developers and maybe they'll consider it. I'd like to have it myself really.

I remember I saw somewhere. Xmarks says that they tried to integrate with Opera, but there was no way.

they were most likely talking about extension. Isoiks idea was to "reverse-engineer" the opera link protocol and implement that on their servers as alternative "frontend"

Or maybe the Opera development team might code some workaround to interface the bookmark syncing with third-party services like XMarks for a better bookmarks sharing through different browsers.. rolleyes

The problem is apparently in Opera's lack of any sort of open API for accessing/editing the bookmarks. See this comment by an XMarks developer. So it would appear that the ball is in Opera's court.
PLEASE, Opera Devs, can we PLEASE have some mechanism for allowing XMarks bookmarks syncing? This, along with LastPass, are the only two things preventing me from adopting Opera as my default, full-time browser.

Guys, we need xmarks on opera.
I use not only opera and need bookmark sync with chrome, firefox.
Opera team, please share needed API with xmarks developers or release opera link addons for other browser!
