Firefox-like URL history

I still don't get how the URL history feature works. No matter how many times I visit an URL it doesn't always show up in the list and I noticed that it's not (satisfyingly) compatible with URL completion. The searching is also not as smart as in Firefox, for example I visit the steam forums way more than the home page but when I type steam in the address bar I only get the home address and a lot of other links that I rarely visit.

It's also nice that the bookmarks are included but as it is now it takes too much space and a few key presses too much, so why not just copy the way Firefox works? Bookmarks are still included but they still are sorted according visit count.

    Basically it sounds like you prefer 10.10's behavior if I'm interpreting that correctly. I'm with you there. What's with the (empty) poll?

    I'm in love with 10.50's URL history. Migrating to a Firefox-like URL history would be regression. Plus, Opera's not a company to copy other's implementations unless it comes to standards. Opera pretty much has its own way of doing things, and for good reason. -1.
    Whoever said nothing could exceed the speed of light obviously didn't know about Opera

    Opera had the multifunctional addresbar before Firefox had the Awesome Bar, so they wouldn't be copying anyone.

    The URL history behavior in Opera 10.10 was good but it wasn't "smart" as in the latest Opera browser (searching for the part in URLs instead of starting from the beginning), except for that the URL history of the current Opera works a bit sluggish.

    Examples:
    - If I type 9099 it won't show http://blabla.com:9099 as result
    - If I type mandriva, http://forum.mandriva.com won't be in the results, although it's the URL I visit the most containing the word "mandriva"
    - If I type upload, http://www.megaupload.com won't be in the results
    - I visit http://translate.google.com (typing "tr") multiple times per day and recently I visited http://www.transmissionbt.com a few times and now the second address is the number one in the list when I type "tr"?!

    This is confusing and disturbing. It seems like Opera doesn't only sort based on visit count.

    Please also show the bookmarks based on the search term and the visit count instead of gluing it at the top.

    Oh and the poll is a bug in the forum. I accidentally created a poll without choices and I could just remove the question instead of the entire poll after I realized that I didn't want a poll.

    It won't? It should. The words "Mandriva" and "Upload" are in the web pages themselves, and that's what Opera seems to look at first. As long as "remember content on visited pages" is enabled.

    It's enabled and nope it doesn't. Btw, my suggestion is just about the URLs and the page titles.

    that's one of the most important "smart" address bar bad behavior, it prioritizes pages that starts with the word you are typing almost ignoring others containing the word in the end completely :/

    One more example: If I visit an Wikipedia article of anything, typing the name of the thing doesn't gives me that article I visited recently in the first place. Instead, random pages containing the word are shown first and I have to scroll down the list and click to "Show # more..." then it appears.

    Another bad thing is the auto-complete being case sensitive (it differentiates lower and upper case chars). yuck
    Make it not to be case sensitive!

    Another suggestion is to add "com" "net" "org" suggestions if I type a dot like it does in Opera Mobile / Mini.
    I think enabling auto-completion feature for the whole history, not the "Typed browser history" only, is a good idea so it would work exactly like Opera Mini / Mobile and Apple Safari (desktop browser) does...

    RTFM.
    Read Operas help-pages, read the documentation. Make the right settings in preferences. This is how it should be, except...

    one point: Opera preferred to sent a incomplete URL to the default search engine cry instead of (good old) URL-completion.

    Do we need a petition? Give us back the classic 'server name competition' without "/" finishing the incomplete URL! NOW!

    The actual behaviour is like a bug. Quit this bad joke, please!

    @KaiAnderssen: I like this non-patronizing way of Opera. But as in the most cases there might be an option to choose.

    +1 for the thread's request: sorting by relevance, inner-url search and so on

    Additionally a little hint about the last visit of the url is desirable.

    Another simple example. Try in Opera and Firefox this -> 'http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/' with word 'desk'. Opera will be fu**ed up, cause Opera search only from beginning, so in this case with word 'my', but Firefox can search any part of URL and first show that one, where I often began write 'desk'

    God how I wish address bar could work more firefox like, this is the only annoyance that forces me to regularly check FF.

    +1, even though I don't like the way it's said to be like firefox.
    MAIN PC: 12.16 -> i7-2600k, 16GB RAM, Win 7 x64
    HTPC: 15.0.1147.153 -> A10-6700, 8GB RAM, win 7 x64

    I just keep getting more depressed every time I update opera. Very old bugs not fixed, easy fix not made(talking about no option to disable image resize here), new "features" even more annoying than the last ones implemented and often poor compatibility with a lot of website.

    I'd like to know if there's a way to do this as well. It may be the only thing I don't like in Opera.

    I haven't read the help pages or the documentation about this but I wonder what difference that would make. I think even Google chrome has the same kind of address field. So opera is currently lacking on this field.
