Opera running EXTREMELY slow...
Okay, I've been using Opera for years now (I'd say about four to five), and I've loved it the whole way... up until today. Today, I re-installed Windows 7 Professional on my desktop for reasons I won't get into, and now Opera runs slower than dial-up. It's not the computer itself, because I also have FF and Google Chrome installed, and they run great. The really odd part about this is that my netbook, which is running the exact same version of Opera that my desktop is, runs it just fine... in fact, I'm using it to type this! I have no idea why this is happening, and frankly, I'm mostly annoyed because of how much I love Opera. I don't want to have to switch to Firefox! If it matters, I'm running a x32 bit on both computers. Can anyone help me with this?Search the forum for "slow" or "proxy"

I came across a few solutions, tried them, and none of them worked... I'll keep looking though... any help?
Hello,
I've the same problem on a Win 7 pro 64 bit box. I'm using Firefox to write this.
If I start Opera everything seems to be normal, but after a while it is getting terribly slow and if use the mouse scroll-wheel, it looks like the rendering hangs - if I drag the slider on the scrollbar the page scrolls up and down smoothly...
In this state opera is unusable... A clean install is the last thing I want to do because of all my settings.
here is the opera:about :
Version
10.53
Build
3374
Plattform
Win32
Betriebssystem
Windows NT 6.1
Thanks for any suggestions...

Have same problem. And i noticed it after first upgrade to version 10.x - was absolutely fine before.
Opera is getting slower and slower every with every minute of use. IE8 on same machine displays pages way faster than opera.
Only way to get it faster again is close Opera and completely wipe every single subfolder in \Documens and Settings\user\Local settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera, except \Documens and Settings\user\Local settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera\icons and restart Opera. After that operation is fast again, unfortunately for few minutes only.
Already tried completely wipe Opera from system and deleting folders
\Documens and Settings\user\Local settings\Application Data\Opera\
\Documens and Settings\user\Application Data\Opera\
\Program Files\Opera
and all registry keys related to opera.
After fresh instal restored configuration from
\Documens and Settings\user\Application Data\Opera\
(restored wand.dat etc.. except globalhistory.dat and cookies4.dat - was really big )
Was fine for just few minutes and again is getting slow.
My version: 10.53 build 3374 (but as i said before - had same problem with previous 10.x versions, especially 10.5x versions
System: Windows XP
It's really annoying - slowest browser in the world :-/
Let me say it again - it's definitively not related to system or broadband connection, IE8 on same PC is working way faster than opera. Regardless lack of adblock, so IE8 got much more to display...
After 2-3 hours i have to wait for every single letter i'm writing on webpages.

I'd like to know whether the people who run Opera acknowledge that there are problems with recent releases and are prepared to say that there is a plan is to do something about them. I installed 10.51 and had four persistent problems that have been the subject of long threads here. I moved to 10.53, which has solved three of those problems but speed continues to be an issue.
I am running Windows 7, 32 bit and I am not having any difficulty with speed when I use Internet Explorer. Opera, on the other hand, is slow to the point of unusability.
I've used this browser for several years. But unless Opera acknowledges the various problems, and says that it is doing something about them as a priority, for me it is time to change browsers.

It's unlikely to be related to plugins. After deleting whole cache content and restart Opera it's fine for a while. I mean about 5-10 minutes.
When is getting bad, everything is slowing down, just everything. Event text input - i can type few words and sit down watching movie - letter, after letter. And it's just Opera - no other software affected.

I just wanted to add that my Opera browser 10.53 is extremely slow also. It seems to get slower the longer I use it. If I shut it down then start it back up it'll be a little faster for a minute then gets slower and slower again. I have tried everything I could think of to solve the problem myself.
It is slow on my laptop as well as my PC. Both use Win XP. The only thing that seems to solve the problem is to go back to using Opera 10.00. But 10.00 has it's own problems as it seems to crash every 20 minutes or so. But crashing is better than very, VERY slow.
I hope you solve this problem by the next couple of versions cuz I would hate to stop using Opera. Have been using it for at least 12 years that I can remember.

Can you try this please:
Close Opera, goto
%USERPROFILE%/Local settings/Application data/Opera/Opera/cache
and delete everything, including subfolders, then go to
%USERPROFILE%/Local settings/Application data/Opera/Opera/vps
and do the same thing.
Now start Opera and check if is fast as it should be. If yes - you have same problem.
You won't loose any important data deleting these files.

O 9.64 on XP: It gradually uses more and more memory and slows down progressively. Close and reopen works (for hours or days, luckily). I skipped to 10.51 a couple months back, but had to return to 9.64. Considering trying 10.10. Wish O developers would respond to the slow-down issues and fix them.

I saw that in 9.6 a lot; but Opera closed down fast in 10.1.
Another user here with this issue. If I go long enough without closing and restarting the browser, it will crash on its own. Often I will come back from a few hours of classes and it will have crashed without my even using it.

Ok, my Opera is fixed now. Well.. sort of.
This is WORKAROUND (not fix):
1. copy ALL content of %USERPROFILE%/Application data/Opera/ to another folder
2. uninstall Opera
3. manually delete folders:
%USERPROFILE%/Local settings/Application data/Opera/
%USERPROFILE%/Application data/Opera/
%Program Files%\Opera
4. Install fresh copy of Opera (can be latest version)
5. check if it's fast again - should be
6. now you can copy back configuration files you copied in step 1 - but only some, not all.
So far i know it's safe to copy back:
- wand.dat (all saved passwords)
- search.ini (all defined searches)
- bookmarks.adr (all bookmarks and shortcuts on toolbar)
copying only files listed above you going to loose history, all settings, adblock configuration and cookies. But your Opera will be fast again.
Who's to blame? Opera. Definitively. The reason was corruption in one or more configuration or database files, probably during one of many updates (which was advertised as absolutely safe).
UPDATE: problem is located in RSS Feeds module - my Opera become slow again after couple RSS channels configured. Shame, Opera!

Copy the entire mail folder. See my sig for a free utility to back up all essential Opera files.
