Drag and drop websites to desktop

I used to do this all the time in Firefox, in which you could drag and drop any of the following; the content of the website; the bookmark link; the address bar; the logo next to the address bar; the tab, etc. In Opera, none of these actually work, it just takes the tab into its own new window so I have to copy the address into Firefox and then drag and drop from there. Is there anyway to drag and drop websites (i.e. the link to a website) onto my desktop from Opera?

Clicking on and dragging the address in the address bar lets you put that on the desktop.
For a link on a page click on it and move your pointer up the way before dragging to the desktop.

Dragging the address doesn't work but I just figured it out. You have to drag and drop the little icon or logo of the website you are currently viewing (directly to the left of the address in the address bar) and this seems to be the only way that works. Thanks anyway!

When I drag and drop from the address bar to the desktop in Windows 7, it creates an *.url file which seems to be permanently attached to Internet Explorer.
Trying to change the association to Opera through "Default Programs" does not work. Is this because I have Opera installed on my D partition?

Edit: Even though the interface for default programs STILL shows Internet Explorer as the default program, the .url opens in Opera. So I guess it works after a fashion.

Yes that's what I meant, sorry for not being too clear there.
