Shockwave Flash problems

I'm not sure what issue(s) produced such a rapid set of releases from 10.51 to 10.52 to 10.53, but the upgrade to 10.53 has produced a new set of problems -- one of which produced an outright crash earlier when I was typing the first attempt at this message (an automatic crashlog was generated and sent, but on relaunch the webpage had no useful information to impart).

The main focus of my original message was to note that on at least 3 occasions in the 2 days since upgrading from 10.52 to 10.53 (not a clean install, as I've no time/energy/inclination to do that each and every time a new software release is issued), if I tried to print a webpage a popup box would arise stating "Shockwave Flash plugin has failed" and advised a restart of Opera. The first time it occurred, I did restart Opera and then attempted to print the page again, but with the same resulting popup of that plugin's failure. So, despite the fact I was using the current version I uninstalled Shockwave Flash, rebooted, downloaded the installation file again from Adobe's website and re-installed it. Seemed to work OK afterwards, but I just got the same popup error message again today.

Opera has other issues involving the print function for webpages that tend to occur with sites which embed ActiveX functions for their internal links to generate a print-friendly format and initiate the actual print job, but this particular issue seems new to 10.53. I'm hoping that 10.54 will come along very soon and resolve it.

Opera doesn't support ActiveX, only IE does.

If it isn't essential to the page, you could always disable plugins (on the F12 menu) before printing ...

I have long known Opera does not use ActiveX, having been an Opera user since v4 or thereabouts. I truly dislike IE and its use of ActiveX and won't use it for anything other than Windows Updates or a very few websites (like my bank's, unfortunately) which won't otherwise function. When there's a webpage print function that won't render or print properly in Opera, it's normally because of the embedded ActiveX script and I'll sometimes post a pointed message to the webmaster regarding my irritation with their arrangement (generally doesn't seem to have much effect, though).

This thread's issue was specifically due to Shockwave Flash, and the error message was generated by Opera so far as I could tell. It hasn't happened again since I posted the original message, but I don't print that many hard copies from webpages so the resolution may or may not be a temporary one. I'll still look forward to improvements in future updates, however.
