How to get rid of the auto downloading updating thing
I was using the internet and suddenly it became lag. And when I restarted the Opera the auto updating ran automatically (wtf I have just updated it a few days ago). I'm really sick of this thing because I must have the right to choose update or not update the program. My network is slow so I must be informed that the downloading is occurring. But Opera keep doing stuff without my permission so I'm sick of it. I try to find the update option but I couldn't found it in Preferences. So someone, anyone please help me.And by the way, there's my suggestion: Please put some thing called Options for user to choose.

It's either one of two reasons:
The first being they want it to auto update and don't want to make it super easy to turn auto updates off.
Two the programmers were lazy and instead of making another menu item in the preferences, just threw it into an empty space on a tab that had extra space.
If you're really geeky though you can type opera:config in the url bar and go to the auto update section and manually change settings, you'll have to ask someone like Tamil what means what as clicking on the (?) for all items says no information could be found.

It's funny that that "question" mark feature was implemented but with no content. Even funnier is that the official "Opera's Settings File Explained" documentation is outdated (last updated for Opera 9.64). And to top it all of, the setting that controls the update is NOT in the "Auto Update" section in "opera:config", but in "User Prefs" as: opera:config#UserPrefs|LevelOfUpdateAutomation

For those here who keep auto-update as "notify only", it might be worth checking out Opera forcing automatic updates ON (in update dialog) topic.
There is a javascript in place on opera:config which will fetch the information from http://help.opera.com/operaconfig/ - but this hasnt been updated yet. It's funny that that "question" mark feature was implemented but with no content. In the meantime you can have a look at http://dev.opera-wiki.com/Opera%27s_Configuration_File_Explained - I've had mixed results getting all the japanese translated. ;-)
