Sort bookmarks alphabetically in My Opera

The Opera Link bookmarks page should sort the bookmarks alphabetically just like them are sorted alphabetically by default in the Opera Browser. And an option to sort them by "My Order", "Nick", etc. should be present for who wants to sort them those ways too.

Completely off-topic on my request, sorry I can't help you.

Now backing to my request... No one wants ways to organize bookmarks while using link.opera.com? And what about making moving them manually possible (on link.opera.com)?

I don't use Opera link, but does changing the sorting method in Opera have any effect?

Especially sort by "My Order", you might have to manually sort them alphabetically, but I assume that the "order" they are displayed in My.Opera, is *that* order... so if you change that order, it might change the order on My.Opera.

(Hmm, that was a horribly written sentence...lol)

I get it.
Here is your answer: doesn't matters the order you choose in Opera browser (I choose "by Name" [alphabetical]), but in link.opera.com it's "by My Order" (and I don't organize anything actually because I already use "by Name", what makes link.opera.com bookmarks display a mess). :/

Set to "By my order" in Opera, drag everything into the right order, it'll stay that way.

You're kidding right? I'll have to do that on every new bookmark I add in the future... NO WAY.

Not kidding per se. I didn't say it was worth the effort ...

Some external bookmark manager might be able to sort the file for you.

I think Opera Software could sort them for me.

Yes Opera should be able to do that... but if you have Firefox installed (I know, shame shame)...

In Opera go to Bookmark Manager, File - Export As HTML

In Firefox (might be a good idea to delete any existing ones)
Bookmarks
- Organize Bookmarks
-- Import & Backup
--- Import HTML

Once done, click on the category header ("Name") which will sort alphabetically...

Import & Export
- Export HTML

In Opera (Make a backup of *.adr first):
Bookmark Manager
- File
-- Import Firefox Firefox Bookmarks.

Sorted... but, you will have to maintain the sorting from then on still.

Same can be done in Chromium, "Organize - Reorder By Title" then export as HTML...

Safari, doesn't seem to have any automatic sorting... don't give a s**t about IE...lol

You might have to get a bit creative with how they are laid out in Firefox/Chromium first... and you'll still have to drag them out of the "Firefox Bookmarks" etc once they are in Opera

If you can get them all into one folder... then you can edit the *.adr and remove that encapsulating folder fairly easy... or use the "Bookmarks Panel" which supports multiple drag&drop, whereas the "Manager" is useless.

Oh, I can sort them without Firefox, really. But is it worth that much trouble ...

Here's the trick ... when you go in the panel (or in Manage bookmarks) and use Save selected, it exports them in the current order. Or did last time I tried anyway. No need for Firefox, export them. remove the old ones, then re-import. But ... you have to get Sync to clear itself before you do the re-import (which is a problem you'd have if you used Firefox as an intermediary anyway).

In the panel (with View by > Name selected), expand all (that's Shift-Right), select all (Ctrl-A), context menu > File > Save selected as ... (and pick a filename). While everything is still selected, press Delete and then Empty trash, and wait for Sync to catch up (closing Opera may help here). Once everything is in sync again, then either Import or just Open (from the bookmarks context menu under File) the saved file, and again wait for Sync.

I never said I couldn't do it (or only by hand), but it's difficult regardless. Doing it by hand is easier to comprehend for most people.

That's the problem. I think it would be easier if My Opera bookmarks offers ways of sorting them just like the web browser offers. That would affect everyone, I'd like everyone to have this option. smile

Oops, it seems I'm late to the party. Feature request noted, I'll make sure it's filed and will follow up on it.

Of course, in the meantime you can use the workaround explained in the thread, but that's just a workaround. Thanks for the feedback!

You aren't late, I'm still waiting for this option.
I'm hopefully wishing this to become available in the next big site update after summer or closer to. smile
