Opera 10.53: high processor load

Since the upgrade to 10.53, opera creates an amazing processor load independent of the quantity or quality of websites opened. The load typically stabilizes around the 50% mark on a Pentium 4 dual processor system. I am a loyal opera user for many years, but in the last days I switched to Firefox to keep the fan from blowing out my mind ....
If anybody has an idea on how to fix this issue, let me know.

1. Linux, Mac, Windows?
2. Tried disabling any UserJS, or JavaScript altogether?
3. %50 even if you're not doing anything, or only when pages are loading?

try disabling plugins globaly and restart opera then enable plugins for the select sites that need it.

First the details:
Its on a winXP system.
The behavior is independent of the number or type of opened pages.
Disabling Plugins or Java didn't reduce the processor load.
If I destroy all customized settings by renaming the relevant folders as described in the forum mentioned by mdnpascual, the problem is gone. But so are my settings sad.

Thanks for all your time!

I'm observing the same problem with my Opera (ver. 10.10, Linux - Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx with KDE 4, kernel 2.6.32-21, Pentium 4 2,5 GHz, 1 GB RAM). It loads nicely with some 12% usage, then after some browsing it can chew up to 95% processor time out of the blue, most dramatic example being YouTube.

Usually pages I browse contain some javascript or flash (yet not in enormous amounts, most obvious examples being deviantArt or several news services), but the processor usage does not change even after closing troublemaking pages. That makes Opera most resource-eating browser I've ever used (I have Firefox and Chrome installed as well and neither of them even comes close to 40% CPU usage).

I don't want to resign from Opera, it serves up my purposes really well and I'm using the mail client extensively. But the whole CPU-eating thing really gets on my nerves.

Any suggestions?

I don't see the problem personally. You got a 10x speed inprovement in Opera 10.50. Did you expect that to come for free? Opera uses CPU more efficiently if it's available.

but, when 10.53 is up with about 5 pages open, it takes 550 of memory...if I minimize it and raise it back up it drops to 79 of memory ...what to do?

Update to <a href="http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2010/06/08/more-bug-fixing">10.6</a>, which has a very significant decrease in memory usage (about 35% for me, though it was never a problem)... however, some still report excessive CPU usage (which also was never a problem for me).

It has something to do with the cache management.

Opera 10.53, XP SP3, dual core intel.
After a while the processor shows a constant 50% overall use (-> 100% of one of the two processors), even when all pages are finished loading.
Doesn't matter how many page are open, can happen when Opera is freshly opened and the first page is loaded. Even after all pages have been closed, processor still at 50%. Generally does not happen with pure html pages.

Fix:
Instantly goes away when I go into the preferences and manually empty the cache! Processor back to 0% / normal page loading levels.
Manually entering the cache size as a smaller value does not help, the problem still persists - the cache needs to be manually emptied to get rid of the problem (until it inevitably arises after more surfing).

Hope this info helps to get rid of the bug for ver 10.60...
