MSISDN in headers
Hello,I'm working as Product Manager in the company Netsize-Gemalto which delivers mobile solutions like SMS, MMS and operator billing.
We recently discovered that our operator billing solutions are affected by Opera Mini.
We have signed contracts with mobile operators and have paid them in order to retrieve some specific user information like MSISDN or IP in the HTTP headers.
Technically their Wap/Web gateways detect which websites the end-user is browsing on and if this website is whitelisted, their GTW's add in the header those pieces of information.
Because of there is a "man-in-the-middle" (Opera server) between the Opera Mini browser and our website/wapsite, we cannot get those specific headers and our operator billing solutions are completely inoperative !
I also analyzed that end-users are browsing more and more from Opera Mini in Nordics region, which is a good news for you but it should not affect our services in the meantime.
How could Netsize and Opera services work together to find out a solution ?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,

With WAN connection instead WEB, MSISDN and also the phone number is detected but I don't know that this information is forwarded when is needed. From my knowledge only for a few providers including Vodafone, Opera Mini has been optimized for this purpose via ISP routing (and that means other servers than Opera) allowing wap gateway to control the connection.

Obviously, when you use a proxy browser - be it Opera Mini, BOLT or SkyFire, the operator cannot detect what you're surfing, right ?
So NetSize's billing would be affected just if the user uses a proxy on their default browser too, if I get this right.

Hello,
Thanks for your answers.
@Sagrid, I don't understand the difference between WAN and WEB. Aren't they supposed to be the same ?
Which Vodafone are you talking also about ? Vodafone is present in many countries but they are providing different API's depending on the country they are present.
@Miyuru, you're totally right. If the user uses any kind of proxy browser, the mobile operator will only see the proxy and will not providing the information like MSISDN.
Is there any way to make it work ?

@matfouc I believe it will need the operator to set up a server farm of their own. Please do not get me wrong. To be honest, I would not want my operator to sign a contract with a third party to sell my details and earn money even when I surf on Opera Mini. This specially becomes a concern as many users use Opera Mini for banking etc with the belief that it is safe and secures his data and identity from third parties. So I do not think this would be something the end user will like. However, try contacting Opera. They've recently shown more interest in operator agreements .

yes, indeed. However with wap gateway disabled isp cant control the (online) connection and vfomi servers forward the same headers like opera.
