If your opera is starting slowly try removing some of the skins you've downloaded, they are known to slow down the start up.

From my experience Opera has the fastest startup time, together with Chrome. But then again I don't have any widgets or other customizations installed.

sure thing, Opera does need much more speed on startup. ie on my computer Opera starts in about 10 secs, while Chrome starts in a sec

What it really needs is to shut down faster. Opera starts up in 1-3 seconds on my computer, but fully closing it takes like 5 seconds. So it can take a little while to restart it. I'd love to have a restart option that restarts Opera as fast as the crash report thing does.

I can assure you the crash report thing does not do anything fast here. p

My Opera 10.53 on XP warm starts in 7 seconds and shuts down in less that a second.
Synch is on, Unite is off. about 5 widgets and 5 Skins.

Yup, even the Link window is gone after a few seconds, but Opera takes like another minute to release the gigabyte it devoured. p

I see. Is that the Opera Link maintenance? Is it the same time with Link off?

However I don't know why opera starts in 26-55 seconds on a first start-up - what do you call it? cold start up??
PS on my Windows OS on my netbook. But only about 5-13 seconds on my other OS Jolicloud Express - also on my netbook.

On windows I also don't know why, maybe there are really many invisible startup programs, though I've disabled all start-up apps as possible.

hmmm, I remember that one time I had opera.dll as an extracted library which was suppose to speed up the start up. Anyone heard of this?
