Update for danaleks on Tiger/PPC Opera 10.5 and 10.10 won't start
After again fully restoring my hard drive yesterday, Opera 10.10 worked. This morning when I turned the G4 MDD running Tiger 10.4.11, Opera would not start.I read this:
You could try to reset Opera by deleting:
~/Library/Application Support/Opera/
~/Library/Caches/Opera/
~/Library/Preferences.com.operasoftware.Opera.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Opera Preferences/
and here's what I've learned this morning.
1. For me, on my fully restored hard drive which now has Opera 10.10, only Opera Preferences and com.operasoftware.Opera.plist are in ~/Library/Preferences. The rest are in my USER LIBRARY.
2. In my User Library are Application Support/Opera, Library/Caches/Opera/(modified yesterday at 12:49) AND also inside Library/Caches a folder you did not list called "Opera Caches" (modified 4/15/2008!!!!). See attached caches jpeg.
The problem is with "Caches/Opera" because Opera will not open when that file is in place. If I remove "Caches/Opera", however, and replace it with "Opera Caches" (which has not been modified since 4/15/2008!) , Opera will work. In the 10.5 series, did "Caches/Opera" replace "Opera Caches"?
I hope this helps you to solve the problem. And about iGlasses, my guess is that "Caches/Opera" somehow interferes with that.
Now for questions:
1. In my trash are folders called Opera Cache, Opera, Opera 10-06-43, Opera Preferences, Opera 10-30-07, and Opera 10-31-15, and the plist file. I used the contents of Opera 10-06-43 to restore my mail accounts, etc.
The folder Opera 10-31-15 is full of icons and thumbnails and I don't know where to put those. Any help on this?
Seriously, I think the problem, for PPC 10.4.11 at least, is that "Caches/Opera" folder that seems to have replaced "Opera Caches". "Opera Caches" allows the program to work, it seems and Opera will not work when "Caches'Opera" interferes.
Please, please do what you can to help resolve this situation.
