It depends on your luck. Seriously, i have seen age old MSI laptops working and new Lenovo's (5-6 months) battery die, Dell laptop video card fried after 1 year of life, age old Dell working without problems.
The rule of thumb seems to be:

Laptops with many features like dedicated video cards and tons of extra features to be less durable than the simpler designs with onboard graphics and not many extras. High end video cards for example are a big problem because they tend to overheat if used extensively at full load.

This being said, Lenovos are descendents of IBM and have a quite good reputation as far as durability goes - at least i thought so. But the article Tamil linked seems to contradict me (i do have ASUS mobo in my desktop so its a bit reassuring).

The most critical aspect of lap top longevity is a cushioned carrying case, operating in a moderate temperature environment, keeping the ventilation ports clear and preventing the spilling of drinks on the keyboard.

One thing that you need is a 64 bit version of W7. Otherwise you will not be able to go past 3GB of RAM.

Bought a Lenovo dual core pentium 1.8 GHz with 3GB for my wife in April and she is stoked with it. The Lenovo has the 32 bit Windows so the RAM cannot be upgraded as long as she uses W7-32. Her 4G internet connection at this time requires Windows. If I can find her a 4G provider that accepts Linux, she will dump W7-32 and I will be able to upgrade her RAM.

I bought for myself a Sony AMD dual core 2.3gHz with 4GB last month for myself. It also has W7-64. I have never used the W-7. One of my first projects will be to upgrade the RAM, at the first sign of sluggishness. Blender the animation editor should test the 4GB Ram!

Lenovo thinkpad T series is OK

Do not buy ideapad and Thinkpad X W series

I suggest you buy Sony or Apple , Dell and HP is more cheap but worse. If you want to buy cheaper one you can choose Acer ( a little looks ugly).
