Opera 10.53 and Java, Security
I have been waiting for this release to get the open ports bug closed. So it did, thanks.
But a new (security) showstopper:
Every time a Java applet is loaded, java.exe (yes, the right one) wants to connect to the net.
The banking system in this country is based on a Java applet, and I don't like this behavior.
But to let any Java applet run on 10.53 I have to allow java.exe thru ZA, if not the applet will not run.
Beside of this Java 6 Update 20 works well.
But this net connection is not there in FX 3.5 or IE 7 so my question is:
Is there a woraround for this or do I have to wait using Java in Opera?
I hate un-necessary net activity.
Thanks

IE7 and FF3.5 are both using the old java plugin, Opera is using the new one. Java connecting directly now instead of through the browser is just the way it is. There aren't any more or less connections this way.
Thanks for answering me.
I don't get what you say.
For Firefox I can very well choose between old and new version in Controlpanel/Java.
I have used the old one and the new one, which can be verified through about:plugins.
But java.exe never wants to connect...
Perhaps it is just me, but much more comfortable with Opera connecting to Net
than all of a sudden 'java.exe'. Here Java is closed down by me to stop the
autoupdating because Java does not respect the settings in Controlpanel/Java.
(I kill autorun of jusched.exe, too).
I feel that this behavior by Opera in a way goes against my 'lockdown' of Java as explained.

Just checked on my system(win 7 64)
And with all browser java.exe connects to the internet, which is logic as the java code in the webpage loads the content trough java, and not trough the browser.
Corect my If i m wrong

That's fine. The Java plug-in needs Java to run to execute applet code and fetch resources.

Thanks.
My problem here is the resources fetched. I understand that Java must run to execute the applet code.
But why all of a sudden start going out to do its job.
What about Fx which uses the same Java plugin.
It doesn't ask for fetching resources to execute code.
Perhaps a silly question, but can we be sure that java.exe not checks for JRE updates or the like
at the same time?
I hate autoupdating and disable it where I can...

Things usually work like this for the Java plug-in:
Java plug-in is invoked with some parameters (like the location of the .class and .jar files) passed to it. Then, the Java plug-in tells Java to fetch them, which it does with it's own network code etc., not the browser's.
So, Java.exe is probably fetching the foo.class file. Checking with Wireshark, "User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (Windows XP 5.1) Java/1.6.0_18\r\n" is the UA that's fetching the .class file for an applet.
As to why Firefox doesn't do this (I didn't check), this may just be a difference in how the Java.exe process is spawned. Not sure.
