Two separate Opera installations -- how can I designate one of them as the default?
My wife and I each need his/her own Opera installation. Multi-user will not do. My Opera folder is called "Opera." Hers is called "OperaNancy."I am the one who does the exploring of new apps, freeware and such. But when I click a link it always opens OperaNancy. Is there any way to make my Opera the default?

Which OS are you using? This is how you set defaults in Windows 7 (and Vista): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default
Basically, Start > Default Programs.
Or "Menu" > Preferences > Advanced > Content > click the "Details..." button > And you can set the file types and web protocols handled by Opera there.
Or you can "reinstall" over your present installation. Don't worry, none of your personal file would be overwritten.

Just go to Prefs -> Advanced -> Programs and either go to details and tick HTML files and http & https protocols or simply tick "check if opera is default", restart and answer yes when it asks you to be the default.
then Open Nancy's Opera, if it asks you to make Opera the default browser, click no, and dont check again.
Sorry. None of these suggestions solved the problem. The previous two were not possible to execute on my Win 7 64-bit machine. Originally the two installation were called OperaSY and OperaNancy. I guessed that OperaNancy had become the default because it appeared earlier in an alphabetic listing. So I laboriously changed all instances of OperaSy to simple Opera. I changed all entries in the Registry and in opera:config and in opera6.ini. Whew!
Didn't help one bit. I am at a loss to guess why OperaNancy opens when I click a link in an app, even when my own Opera is open and hers isn't .
Any insights?

I have made two attempts to turn my wife's and my Opera installations into a single multi-user installation. I tried to follow the opaque instructions offered at http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/889/ but had to undue the changes. Does anyone know of where I might find CLEARLY WRITTEN instructions for accomplishing this task?. All the program's associated files are in my Opera directory. My wife's profile is, unfortunately, stored in her User folder.
I will remember in my will whoever can solve this for me...
In the ten plus years I've been using Opera (started with version 3 as I recall) I have not had an Opera installation or upgrade ask me if I wished to install for more than one user.
Pesky, frustrating problem.
