Opera... its not the browser it promises to be

My Opera browser was working on My mac... OS 10... 10.3.9 that is

so I go to opera and I grab the update for what is advertised as for OS 10 and it wipes out my working Opera browser so now I have no opera browser and no way from opera to get a working browser... so not happy with Opera....

This is really quite a rip off... but then, I could spend $3000 for a new computer to get their browser...

Any solutions?

No, but I have a "suggestion", don't post the same topic twice, even if they are in separate forum sections.

One or the other (probably the other, since you are using Mac, and this is the Mac section), or possibly both since neither of them describe the problem, so no one can really help resolve the issue, or state "solutions".

You can get older Opera versions here:
http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=mac&list=all

And the list of which OS is required is here:

TibetanPhotoPr: My computer (G4, 10.4.11) is similarly slow as yours.

After installing 10.53, it took up to two seconds to open up a new tab. Going back to 10.52 (I thought that was the previous version I had installed) did not help at all. But going back to 10.10 did the trick; Opera is now running as fast as before and I am very happy. smile

So, try installing 10.10 from the list here:
http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=mac&list=all

Opera 10.52 and newer requires Mac OS 10.4 or newer on Intel or PPC. We had to drop support for OS 10.3 in order to modernize the code.

Opera 10.10 will still work on older machines. But as always, we recommend using the latest version in order to take advantage of the latest security updates and features.

That list looks ambiguous BtW.

Opera 10
OS X Panther (10.4) or higher on an Intel- or PowerPC-based system.
Opera 9
OS X Panther (10.3) or higher on an Intel- or PowerPC-based system. OS X Jaguar (10.2) is believed to work, but is officially unsupported.

I found out that the security risks of older Opera versions are indeed very big and that it is known that they are being exploited. So, I will no longer use Opera on my old machine. I don't want any virus on it.

In terms of speed, Chrome and Safari are good browsers. But there is no version of Chrome for my operating system. This leaves me with Safari, which is what I am using now. (I'm not happy with Safari but don't really have any other choice, do I?)
