User login window does not appear

I am trying to connect to a internal work site that requires authentication. When I use Firefox on a Mac OSX10.5.8 to connect to the site, a login window appears that lets me enter a username and password and then continue. When I use Opera 10.53, the reply from the server is :
-------------
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied because your Web browser is sending a WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to accept.

Please try the following:
Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials.
HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
-------------

Is there some setting in Opera that I can try to specify different credentials from what is being sent?

Thank you,
Costas

A Mac in a Windows "Only" environment? If so, the servers are probably configured to use the MS-specific NTLM/Negotiate authentication methods, not Digest (or Basic) authentication, and NTLM is only supported by Opera on Windows because it uses Windows APIs to perform the authentication.

Thank you for the quick reply.
True, it is a Mac in a vast majority Windows enviroment. When a user accesses that site from a windows machine, there is no login needed i think because the user is already logged in to the windows domain. I cannot test Opera on a windows machine because they (IT) do not allow users installing anything on the windows machines. I might try Opera under Parallels to see what happens. The reason I posted this is because Firefox and Safari both present a login dialog to connect to the server, so I thought that there might be some security setting in Opera that would unlock that feature. Would this fall into a 'feature request' ?

Regards,
Costas

I also see this issue on my linux box when I'm trying to connect to my company's windows server based apps.

Firefox and Google Chrome don't have this issue with their linux versions so I'm not sure what it the logic in Opera to not enable users who are on Linux or Mac to use windows server based web apps?!?

Please make this feature a priority in Linux and Mac versions of Opera.

Cheers,
Valent from Croatia.

I too am effected by this old and persistent bug. I am able to log into our Intranet using OperaWin but not using OperaMac (I haven't tried using OperaLnx). In Windows I get a credentials dialog but on the Mac I just get bumped strait to the error. Opera (on the Mac) ought to prompt for credentials and not make assumptions about identity.
