Wand no longer prompts to remember passwords

I am not sure why, but lately, the Wand does not prompt me to save passwords especially on Hotmail. The log in page has changed and I have to keep typing the two different passwords for the 2 accounts I have there. Minus deleting the wand.dat file, is there another way to have that issue resolved?

I am having the same problem with the wand not offering to save passwords. Have you found the solution yet?

Me to, can't find where wand hides em either, backed up to 10.01, and forced it to stay there, 10.5 was a step backwards. wish I could find a clean 9.63 to use actually

the browser is losing functionality quite rapidly speed dial grows useless as I have to manually login to three of my choices, and the number grows

The wand data is held in the file "wand.dat" in your profile folder.

Try going to Tools>Advanced>Password Manager.
Search for the sites you're having trouble with by typing the urls into the search box, and delete their Wand data.
Next time you visit them you should be prompted to save the login information again.

The wand has not been working correctly for me since about Opera 10.5

My wand.dat file works fine, any stored passwords are there and do what they are supposed to. The problem is with new passwords. When I enter a new site password I get a blank space at the top of my page, as if that were my prompt to save the password, but there is no prompt, the space is blank.

There is no entry in my wand data to delete, either before or after using the password.

Yes, I would like this problem to be fixed.

By chance do you have opera:config#UserPrefs|SpeedDialState set to '3'?
Setting it to '0' will fix that.

Interesting.
My "SpeedDialState" is set to "1", and I've not noticed any problems with the Wand.
What do these different settings actually do?

Probably nobody knows why this error exists when SpeedDialState is set to 3 wink.
Here is the answer for your question (from http://www.opera.com/support/usingopera/operaini/):

Speed Dial State - Available options:
0 = Folded ("Show speed dial" message)
1 = Normal view
2 = ReadOnly (as in kiosk mode with -kioskspeeddial)
3 = Disabled (as in kiosk mode)

Ah thanks.
I'm sure I could have found that myself if I wasn't so lazy!

So it looks as if you have to actually switch Speed Dial off if you have this problem.
Got to be an obscure bug as I can see no obvious connection between Speed Dial and Wand password saving!
It does seem to work OK for me though.

I disabled Speed dial after taking my first look at it. I consider it as being less than useless.

Since then, on all new installations of Opera I have disabled Speed dial, on all subsequent upgrades I have not even thought about it.

Who would have thought that Speed dial would glitch the Wand sherlock

FWIW: I altered the Speed dial setting late last night, during the day today Opera crashed yikes while I was away at work.

This is the first time Opera has crashed on me, without me really, really, over-taxing my system. I mean like going back to Opera 6.x or 7 scared

If you have this problem, it's already off, you just change from disabled to folded. Instead being totally turned off, you get "Show Speed Dial" in the bottom right corner of the window. Either way, it's a blank page.

Ah right, yes sorry I just read the thread again!
So the problem appears if Speed Dial is disabled fully.
Very strange!

By chance do you have opera:config#UserPrefs|SpeedDialState set to '3'?
Setting it to '0' will fix that.

Click here: opera:config#Speed Dial State, change and save changes, or either copy-paste "opera:config#UserPrefs|SpeedDialState" into your address bar and go to page.

well - it isn't "wrong" in general you just aren't supposed to see certain dialogs in kiosk-mode^^
should be more explicit though - its to easy to get in this mode and not knowing it IMHO

I thought I had the same problem, but then I discovered that when I entered a password, a new line appears at the bottom of the header area, jogging the page down. This contains the text for saving the password, with options. It seems this has replaced the old dialog box in earlier versions...I had ignored the jog down, as being just another little odd thing, of which there are numerous.

My Speed Dial is set to 1, the default. Setting it to zero has no effect on password saving behavior for me.

I do find Speed Dial useful, and use it all the time. It does not crash my Opera!

Windows XP and 2000, Opera 10.53.

My speed dial (which I do use occasionally) is set to 1, but still I'm not being offered the save password prompts. This may only be happening on some sites, however, the old wand pw work fine. That is, it doesn't ask me if I want to save the pw for sites it has no pw listed for - I went and looked for the entry to delete it, but there isn't one.

Now what?

I'm having the exact same problem as TheLimit described. very weird. however, I upgraded from 9.64 to 10.60. on 9.64, it does not ask me whether save the password either. maybe I mistakenly click "never remeber password for this site?" how can I enable it?

yiiiiiiiiiiiiiihhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I fixed it on my laptop! once I sent last message, I realized that maybe I should check the password manager. Type in the url, in my case, it is login.yahoo.com (before, I used mail.yahoo.com, no wonder I can not figure it out), then I see there is one entry for "" (blank). I guess, now, if I input any new logins, it always match the blank. so, it thinks the "new" password is "old". that's why it does not pop ask "whether save it....". once I delete this blank entry, it works ok now.

hope it is useful.

I have the same problem as theLimit above, but only with gmail. Previously I had an entry in password manager for gmail, but it disappeared the other day and I haven't been prompted to save the password when I log in. I have checked the password manager screen and there is no entry for gmail. As I logged in to the my.opera site to post this reply I was prompted to remember that password, so it seems like the problem is only affecting gmail. Any help would be appreciated.
