Reason for Alt key change?

The [Alt key] standard no longer works in 10.53. For instance, [Alt b] used to launch bookmarks. Now, the keys can't be pressed together; no [Alt b], but Alt THEN b.

I'm sure I can live with the change and I'll lose no sleep. However, I don't understand the logic of the change. Is this being done with other software?

If I choose the old menu bar Alt doesn't work at all.

It should work when the menu bar is enabled, so that sounds like a bug.

Another issue with Alt key is when menu bar is off, pressing "Alt+Shift" (a common combo for keyboard layout switching) shows the menu bar. Pressing "Shift+Alt" does not, but input fields still loose focus.

Windows version behaves normally...

I use hidden menu bar but I have put the bookmarks menu next to the big Opera menu button. I have the same issue, alt+b doesn't open the bookmarks menu anymore. Would love to get this fixed.

You could work around it by adding the key binding manually.

I could work around it, but I don't know which action to map for alt+b. Does a "open bookmarks menu" action even exist?

Show popup menu,"Browser Bookmarks Menu" should do the trick, I believe.

I realize this topic is kinda old but the menu popping up every time I press Alt (Alt+Shift) is driving me crazy and I can't find a way to turn it off. In the worst case I'll just change my shortcut but any other ideas are more than welcome.
Thanks.

I suppose you mean switch On...
Indeed, if the menu bar is shown hitting the alt key has no effect at all, but if it's hidden and only the red Opera menu button is visible hitting the alt key makes the menu pop-up.
I'd prefer to have it hidden though :/

I wonder what would happen if you left that section empty in the menu setup file - would Opera still display the (empty) menu bar, or would it collapse the empty space?
