gmail's "all mail" disappeared

I think I made an error. I am using imap with my gmail accounts. In Opera, I thought "inbox" (under "gmail') was highlighted and I clicked ctrl a (select all) and hit delete (on my kb; not shift-delete). But I think, instead, that "all mail" was highlighted, and all my messages have disappeared from this view. I sometimes use this 'inbox' view because the slider covers only 20 or 30 messages, while in all view the slider is harder to manage because there are so many messages, even if I set it to 'month' view.

What I don't understand is that 'all mail' still says it contains 18095 messages. I am looking at flat view, showing everything but spam and trash, for one month. There are only two messages, the two that arrived after this incident. Why does it list 18095 messages?

Also: this happened so fast. It's not like Opera was busy for at least a few seconds to delete many messages from this view. Can all mail really be removed from this view in less than a second? Forever? Irreparably?

And if I remember well, if I just use 'delete' in the 'all mail' view, the messages go away, but come back later, because this is not a proper delete. That's why I am always dragging mails out of this view to trash in order to 'delete' them. So how come that they now all really seem to have disappeared?

In addition: Gmail webmail itself is not showing right in opera. See here

Can anyone help me understand (all) this?
I am aware of this helpful info, but I have a hard time applying it to this situation.

Thanks

Not sure, but things you can try:

Correct. But, that may be different if you're using the Gmai Labs Advanced IMAP controls extension. Are you?

Try unsubscribing from All Mail and resubscribing. And, goto opera:config#consistency, set it to 0 and restart.

Try switching back to the default theme. Then, try going to the html_only version and back and or log out, clean up all your google cookies and cache and log back in. Also, try turning off IMAP at mail.google.com and then turning it back on.

In Opera though, it's best to just delete the Gmail account and set it up again. That should fix any index problems you might have. But, after you do that, make sure you're subscribed to all the IMAP folders.

Also, in Opera, right-click in the mail panel and make sure "Show messages from" is set to your Gmail account or all.

Also, make sure you're using Opera 10.53.

Yes, I used labs. But I disabled all items that were enabled (see more below).

I unsubscribed and resubscribed, and all my mail is back. Wow phew thanks!
What does setting the consistency to 0 do, actually? I haven't done that yet.

The strange thing is that I am not able to sign out of my google account in Opera. The page closes, and then I get the "loading xxx@gmail.com" and it reopens again. I deleted all cookies, and then was asked username and pw for the account. This reinstalls all google cookies. And I am again not able to log out.

I cannot click any link in gmail using opera (nothing happens). I disabled all labs items using FF, but the icon (green 'Erlenmeyer') still says I have 3 labs features enabled when I hover over it. Do you know how to turn off/remove labs entirely?

This is the last thing I want to try, because it will affect the order of my accounts listed, now that I have that perfectly organized. If you remember from before, I did remove and recreate some pop accounts that listed gmail accounts within them, which resolved that issue.

I was... just had not updated my tag line :-)

Thanks immeasurably!

Not sure of everything it does. But, one thing it does it to check that message list entries point to a message. If the entry points to a message that no longer exists (because an entry got stuck in the database somewhere), the ghost entry is removed.

Goto https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0#settings/labs in Firefox and again make sure everyone one is disabled and click "save changes" at the bottom. Try the same thing in Opera too.

Not sure why you're having problems in Opera. Do you have any UserJS scripts installed? Any google urls in the content blocker? Do you have buzz enabled? Do you have any google site preferences that have you identifying Opera as another browser?

Also, you can close down Opera and delete the cookies4.dat and override.ini files. Also, delete the cache, opcache and temporary_downloads folders (for extra, non-related good measure). You'll lose your cookies and site preferences. But, you'll rule out corruption with those files.

I rarely use "identify as" but I had set it to FF (for another site) and forgot to turn it back. Now I see gmail normal again!
Ave burnout!

Labs itself is still a mystery. All items are disabled, settings saved, and hovering over the icon still says '3 enabled'.

Thanks again!

Hmm. Maybe the Gmail Google Group forums would be able to help with that.
