Where is the "resizeable search box"? (10.53 3374, WinXP SP3)

I am one of those who keep getting a drop-down tab as wide as the whole tab every time I type anything in the standard search box:

This make it impossible to read a displayed page, which is often ESSENTIAL when formulating a complex search. I object to both the built in dropdown behavior and the tab-wide behaviour.

I know that dumping that search box in favor of e.g. a "Google only" box completely removes the drop-down completely - and with it the possibility of selecting search engine as well, which I do not want. I prefer the old behaviour...

Here (beta forum section) I read of a "resizeable search box" which should be at least free from the tab-flooding issue:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=405571 Problem is, no matter where I look among the buttons I fail to find this supposed resizeable search box with drop down menu (here, as shown in the abovementioned thread):

Where is it?

Thanks in advance!

In the address bar, period.
They dropped the 3 dots design, which is a good decision because it make the browser look amateurish.
You still can drag it just as usual, just place the pointer at the left side of the search field & drag.

Somehow the resizable search field can only be place in the address bar, & no where else...
You will have to use the standard search field if you want to place it on other toolbar.
File a bug report if you want.

Right-click on the address bar and select Customize: Reset to defaults, if you have problems finding it.

Thank you dude09 and danaleks!

It doesn't work *exactly* that way but knowing it could be done I got to my destination. Faith wins.

- I could reset the address bar, and the search field works as billed while it's there.
- But once moved to the right of the address box in my single all-purpose bar (originally, it was the Main bar) the search box lost the search engine icon + pulldown on the left end of it and reverted to window width when text is entered.

This is the behavior I always saw. I then did it differently:

- I first removed both address and search boxes from my Main box.
- Then moved a new search box in from the address bar while the address box wasn't there.
- Only then I added the address box to the left of it, and only at last I pulled it to the right.

The search box from the Address bar now retained the search engine icon + pulldown on the left, and does not flood the window.

To sum it up: you can get there, but it's convolutely path dependent! :-) This btw also explains while several users could not reproduce it.

Should I report this oddity as a (minor) bug?

I still believe that an automatic dropdown is not sufficiently justified by the only discernible purpose of reminding users EVERY SINGLE TIME that more than one search engine is available. :-/
