Opera 10.53 can only install widgets from widgets.opera.com, and not anywhere else
I was going through the widget tutorial and wondered why my widget would not install at all. Everything was bundled properly and my mime-types were correct, but even the Hello World widget would not install. To test if widgets were working at all I installed the Analog Clock widget from widgets.opera.com, and it worked fine. I then copied the .WGT file to my own server and served it with the same mime-type, but no luck - it would simply not install!
Thinking that I might have to test differently, I went to install the Widget Emulator - but that would also not install.

I get a small install dialogue instead of the ordinary install dialogue with an icon and description, see the following image:

Clicking "Yes" does nothing.
At first I thought this might be a problem that was local to my machine, running Vista with all service packs and patches, so I downloaded the IE8XPSP3 virtual image from Microsoft and tested.
This is a clean XP install with no additional software. I installed Opera 10.53 and was able to reproduce the same problem.
In summary, whenever I try to install a widget from a site that is NOT widgets.opera.com I get a small install dialogue without icons and the widget does not install.
Hi,
There is also another workaround for that, just add address of the server to Trusted Web Sites:
1) Hit Ctrl+F12 or OMenu -> Settings -> Preferences or Tools -> Preferences.
2) Go to Advanced tab.
3) Go to Security section in left panel
4) Press Trusted Web Sites... button
5) Press Add... button
6) Enter http address of page you want to install widget from (in this case. http://dev.opera.com/ )
7) Press Close button
8) Press Ok button
9) Try to install widget.
Best Regards,
