How Can I Edit Spellcheck Word List?

The title/subject line says it all; I carelessly added a misspelled word to the list [clicked "Add Word" option accidentally] & would like to remove it. I tried highlighting the the misspelled word in the suggestion list & using the right mouse button with the hope that it would produce a menu with a "remove" option but it only inserted this word in the text just like the left mouse button does. I also tried using "opera:config" but couldn't find any spellcheck parameters [except "use spellcheck by default"] & also tried searching for "spellcheck" in Opera forums but to no avail. I hope I submitted this to the right forum; there are several that this topic might conceivably fit in in. TIA.

Yes, you should be able to type the word (if you remember it) into a text area like the comment boxes on this site, right-click it, and select "Remove" (the one you say is missing/not working... might be a bug? working for me in 10.54, XP SP3).

If that fails, then in your profile folder, there's a directory called "Dictionaries", depending on what language you are using (I assume english) then it should be:
..\profile\dictionaries\en.oow

Open it in any text editor, remove the words (and corresponding line break, shows up as a square [] thing)...

Probably a good idea to do it while Opera is closed.

Is there a way to remove a word from the default dictionary (not the word you added)?

Similar to the custom list... but far more complicated... in the main installation folder, somewhere around this area:
..\Opera\locale\en\en\en.dic

Generally, for most words you can just remove the line that the word is in... some words are more complicated though.

Thanks for the suggestions but, after extensive searching, all I could find here was was the Opera default dictionary at C:\Program Files\Opera\locate\en\en.zip which didn't contain any added words. Nothing showed up under .oow or ...\Opera\profile. I'll keep looking for this elusive profile folder though & I'm still open to suggestions but, in the meantime, it's nothing I can't live with. Regards.

It shouldn't be elusive at all if you click the link...

Opera directory = Profile Folder... but all of the "Paths" except "Plug-in path" should point to somewhere in your Profile...

If you found a *.oow file, then you must have found your Profile... so if it's not in that file, you're either hallucinating, or you use more than one language/dictionary/etc for Opera.

If you found a *.oow file, then you must have found your Profile...

I did a search for .oow files but never found any & none of the paths under "About Opera" refers to spellcheck or dictionary but I'll do a search on each of the addresses to see if any contain the added spellcheck words.

I never did locate the database for the stored Opera spellcheck words in this computer but I figured out how to remove them from the database after a little experimenting. Since this may be helpful to others I'm posting the solution here. Simply retype the the word you accidentally stored or entered in the spellchecker [in an e-mail or forum posting typically], put the cursor on the word then click it with the right mouse button & click "Remove word" from the menu with the left mouse button & it's gone from the database.

Note that this only works for words stored in the database, of course [it tends to be difficult to remove a word that's not there]. ["Remove word" option is grayed out in this event.] Regards.
