Opera 10.53 + Windows 98 SE + Java 1.5

See title for what I am attempting to get to work. I have successfully installed Java 1.5 and it works correctly with Firefox 1.5. No problem so far. I can use that to access the java needing site in question and have done so.

What I'd like to do is to get it to work in Opera also. It does not. When java installed it asked which browsers it was to set up for plugins and IE, FireFox were listed. Opera was not. When this version came out Opera didn't need plugins to use Java. Unfortunately 10.5 does it appears. So Opera 10.5 looks for a plugin that Java 1.5 says Opera doesn't need.

Funny hey?

Well I suppose one gets these things when mixing and matching software from different times.

So can it be done or not?

I think (but not sure) Opera 10.5x uses only a new Java plugin (Next-Generation Java Plug-In), which was released with JRE 1.6.0 u10...
So current version of Opera does not support (?) older versions of JRE.

Of course older versions of Opera using JRE 'directly' (not by a plugin).

Hrm, thanks to this post I just noticed that my Linux 10.53beta1 doesn't even seem to have Java support !!

I had been using 10.10 with an ancient Java 1.5 so I don't see why the new one shouldnt work tbh...

you will need to use opera 8 or 9 then it will work but with opera 10x it won't.
