Adjust Opera's Window decorations through your window manager?

-1, for windows this was a logical step as the default windows components (eg. explorer) also have it this way. for gnome this is definitely not the case. also the title bar is _the_ standard component of a window that people expect to be the same across different apps.

Window applets can intergrate title bar of maximized window with panel, i think it can serve as a substitute before the feature come out

I maintain that being able to apply something to any or all applications you wish per your window manager is superior to any built-in stuff. Most window managers aren't as limited as Explorer in that regard.

Dude, you are stupid! If it is good for windows why wouldn't it be good for Gnome-Ubuntu?

No, it doesn't. Give me an example (screenshot), or I don't agree with you.

@DZE-MasteR: as I said it is "good" (never actually said that, I don't like it in windows either) for windows as some standard components also took that step with windows vista/7 (and also there seems to be an api for doing titlebar-integration stuff) whereas in gnome and kde this is completely not the case.

also @both of you: troll I didn't flame, so why do you?

Glad I don't use Vista or whatever that screenshot came from! yikes

I mean, utilizing the space for something else like in Opera is one thing, but just wasting space with a giant semi-transparent... blob?

I sure hope the title bar will be in Opera 10.53 on Ubuntu like it is on 10.53 in Windows........none! I find my self often using Chrome, i guess this is some of the reason. Stupid i know, but a lap-top screen is not that big.

It's infuriating. It would be all well and understandable if it were collapsed for some actual purpose like IE, but it's just blank! Utter incompetence.

@everyone who wants this "feature" in Linux - it's already there as an option, it ALWAYS has been long long before Opera 10.5 came out.

That is still showing the standard titlebar with no UI elements in it. It just doesn't contain any text, that's the only difference between it and a typical XP window.

Right.

@serious: Reading the above, I thought you mean that explorer is utilizing the title bar for something else (like Opera using it "as a tab bar") - but they just leave it blank!

I don't know what to say, Is a good idea, but not necessary and not original one... Personally, I use fluxbox and in Google Chrome I had to choose "Use system title bar and borders" because when minimize and restore the browser, it is blinking few times.
Anyway, I use a compact theme, so the border is almost smaller than google chrome..

I want to save wasted screen space regardless of if I'm in Win 7 or Gnome. I want usability rather than adhering blindly to any rule.

Any idea how to do this in Ubuntu Lucid(Gnome)? Do we have to install that Window applet?
And currently 10.5 hasn't reached Linux yet if you are beta-shy. Well, lazy really. I want to use the auto update that still thinks 10.10 is the "latest version of Opera"

"killall -9 metacity" gets rid of all window borders wink

Depends on whether you're using Metacity or Emerald - I've done it with Emerald before but I think Emerald is probly dead at this stage. With Metacity you'd have to edit the theme manually, unless you're using Compiz in which case it's a simple option in settings.

Removing all borders sounds different from Opera hiding the Title bar when maximised yet allowing the window still to be dragged.

Where? There is a simple option in Chrome which you can select to hide the title bar. I haven't found this to be the case in Opera.

I meant in the operating system - this is (rightly) dependent on each of the individual window managers.

I use maximus

Picture

I use a netbook so the extra 1/4 screen space equals quite a bit, the only issue is that any dialogs that open in a new window are also maximized.

sudo apt-get install maximus
