I Want My Old Opera Back!!

Have been a loyal Opera user for several years. I liked the intuitive approach of the browser. Now I'm completely lost. The latest version has me completely lost. I'm not sure what happened to my old browser that was simple. Was Opera taken over by the Windows folks? Really. This latest version is a disaster.

I can't even add pages to my favorites anymore. Where is that button? Seems like the only way to do that is to open the bookmark panel. Do I miss something along the way?

Somebody please help because I'm completely lost with this latest upgrade.

Also, when I right-click, open in new tab, it doesn't work anymore. I guess the opera engineers thought it was best to force me to click the wheel. Unacceptable. I have my habits and I don't like people messing with them. Please somebody help me get back to my old habits!! LOL

Bookmarking a page: right-click the page, choose "add bookmark" or press the O-button in the far upper left corner and choose "page-bookmark page" or activate the old menu by clicking the O-button and choosing "show menu bar".

For opening links in new tabs, make sure you have preferences-tabs-"reuse current tab" unchecked.

This didn't work when I tried it (it's already unchecked, and the right click "open in a new tab" still didn't work.)
It was caused by an old menu modification which was presumably now incompatible.

The correct command in standard_menu (1).ini under the [Link Popup Menu] section is -

Item, MI_IDM_MENU_PAGEBAR_LINK_IN_NEW_PAGE= Open link in new page, -2, "urlinfo"

Works for me!

Is there a way to force a new window instead of tab? SOmething has changed in the recent update that persistently adds tabs to random windows regardless of how it was configured before.

Me too i wish i could get bookmarks to actually stay in Opera. Better watch what you say around here they will delete threads with disparaging remarks like that in them.

When you click the big red icon on the left you can choose an option above exit, which is something like "display menu" and you will have your old menu back.

The option is on the link popup menu. Right-click on a link or bookmark, and select "Open in new window."

You can also use Preferences, Tabs, Additional tab options, Open Windows instead of tabs.

Thanks for the replies on this. The right-click, open in background tab still doesn't work. I am forced to click the wheel on the mouse.

Works fine here!
I suggest you find the "standard_menu (1).ini" file on your computer, open it up in a text editor, find the [Link Popup Menu] section and delete it.
Save a backup of the unmodified version somewhere first so you can restore it if anything goes wrong!
That should return your link right click options to the defaults, keeping any other menu alterations you may have done.
All the offered options should then work!
Cheers, Dave.

I had the same problem with my setup. In the end it was a user customization that I had to open the link in firefox or IE. Because the .ini files for the settings have changed in version 10.5x, you will have to re-create such customization, if you have it from an earlier version

The .ini fixes didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Attach your custom menu .ini file to the forum, then others can test it and see if they get the same results as you.

Umm.. if you upgraded from ancient version of Opera, most likely will get a messed up menu/toolbar button. (e.g. missing button)
Try to do a clean install, i.e wipe your Opera profile data).

I'm very surprised at that!
Go to Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Toolbars, and set the menus to "Opera Standard".
Do the link right click options still not work then?
