[10.54 b3386] Go to Page address dropdown, features and sort order.

[10.54 b3386] win2ksp4ur1v2

Hello, I have used Opera for more than 10 years but I have been stuck on version 8.54 for sometime.
The 9.x versions that I tried were not an improvement and there never was a version 9.54

But now we are at version 10.54 I thought I would give it a try...

This issue may be similar to the post about address bar dropdown, but I am not familiar with recent address bar versions.

The immediately noticeable feature is that the f2 Go to Page dialogue (which I use a lot) has become much more complicated, and lost the ability to do what is wanted.

It seems like a good example of Hutber's Law in action.

In version 8.54 the dropdown global history gives you: the full list of matches, with scroll bar, sorted aphabetically and the dropdown expands to accomodate as much of the URL as possible.

The "improvements" in 10.54 are:

1- It always opens with the short list of 5 items, or 10 if you count the invisible ones.
So I frequently have to click on the Show "190" more, if I am revisiting multiple pages on one site.

2- The dropdown is fixed to the width of the dialogue.
So I can't see enough of the URLs path to tell which entry is which. The page title is rarely useful. Fortunately I can widen the dialogue box enough.

3- The entries seem to be in random order.
I suppose it must be based on time or popularity.
But to find items quickly, in a long list, they need to be alphabetical. Otherwise you can't guess where the one you want might be, and have to scan through the list one by one.

Maybe you are trying to accommodate non-alphabetic languages, with unicode URLs coming soon. But the chinese websites that I visit still use ASCII URLs, although the page title is in chinese.

My suggestion:

1- Please make the short/long list mode persistent. With a MORE/LESS button.

2- Please sort the long list alphabetically, but for the short list, time or popularity is a better option.

I can't find any configuration options that would modify this dialogue box. If it is configurable, like most things in Opera, please tell me how.

Thanks!
