operaunite : F2F, torrent, activity monitor, direct access, search engine
operaunite should use friends list (with optional friend of friends) access level (not only free or password level like now)and also use torrent tecnology: in this way wher upload bandwith is low (africa and italy for example :-( ) if some friend host files present also on my unite.... a third friend can download from both... increasing total upload speed and downloading it faster...
should be nice monitor\log uploading speed by files\service\user and downloaded files...
would be fine if operaunie could work without opera proxy but directly by host ip... maybe is yet possible sorry I am not sure...
On operaunite shuold be present a searchengine lloking for a files on a user unite sharings... ( :-) and also a working activity feed rss ...)
I like your suggestions. Especially the torrent feature and possibility to let it work without the proxy servers but using your ip.
(I have been thinking and working on a 'dropbox' application which autmatically syncs files over computers, but I can't seem to get it to work the way I would like, it would be so nice to not have the restriction of x mb of space usage)
I got two additions to your request:
- An (xml) api which can be used on normal websites to check whether my unite is on, and which services are running (also working with ip)
- Separate Unite from Opera, just like the widgets. So Unite can be started by default when the computer starts without having you to run Opera first and manually start Unite. Although a control panel in Opera should be present.

Ok, I haven't read a couple of things yet:
OU is available without the opera proxy: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/custom-domains-opera-unite/
I had to set up port forwarding to get it to work though..
About the dropbox app I suggested, the document courier and the document sync seem to do the job pretty ok for now. But it is not yet as easy as dropbox is..
Another nice thing would be if the several unite apps could share the same style sheet which can be userdefined. so everyone could make his or her OU more personal.
