allow Inactive Tabs to be really inactive

Most users interact with ONE tab at a time.
Inactive tabs keep running unnecessary ads/banners/scripts/plugins/etc.
IMHO: in most (not all) cases this is a waste of CPU/RAM resources.
It's also not easy to find the inactive tabs which plays the annoying MIDI on background.

Suggested remedy:
- user-configurable setting to stop all background activity on inactive tabs by default
- UI to enable particular background activity for tab/url-mask
example1: enable background plugin (flash) activity for youtube.com (background buffering, playback of music on background)
example2: enable background javascript activity for megaupload.com (60 seconds timeout before free download)
- color/border/icon/pulse indication of enabled/actual activity on inactive tabs
- RAM management (unload into cache) for inactive tabs?

Allow pausing of activity on "inactive" tabs?

Good idea. +1 (voted)! (And thanks for the pointer, even though I'm late wink)

I especially like that you came up with two example where one would WANT a backgrounded tab to stay active. But indeed, the normal/preferred case for me would be to have activity only on visible tabs.
My most wanted wish list item : Serialized Downloads! And perhaps a simple (yet MUCH better) session manager.

I wonder if the decision-maker for the new Opera features is aware of this forum's existence smile
