Where are the tools I'm used to?

Why do I have a line across my screen that says

Home Index Contents Search Glossary Help First Previous Next Last Up Copyright Author

Each of these apparently refers to buttons, but if there are buttons there, they're grayed and unresponsive.

What happened to the toolbar that once let me intuitively & instantly access the typical File Edit View... lineup.

Is this a matter of "Skin" choice? If so, I don't remember making a choice, and if I did, it was with the expectation that the "standard equipment" would still be available.

I don't have the luxury of spending hours sharpening my pencils and filling my pens, figuratively speaking. I've used Opera for many years and just expect it to be there when I call for it. But I have conscientiously tried to rummage through the marketing text -- "Tips," etc. -- to discover an explanation for the changes and a back door to take me round to the good old days -- but I haven't guessed the right search term, I suppose, and have had no luck with this very basic question. I never thought I'd start flirting with another browser -- "Chrome," of all things!

On top of Pesala's suggestion, which in short form means: <i>Press "Alt" and select "Show Menu Bar"</i>...

The other bar you are referring to is the "[Site] Navigation Bar" which can be disabled by going to:
<i>Appearance - Toolbars</i> (Shift +F12)
-or-
Right-Click on it, and go to <i>Customize - Appearance</i>
