Replies above original message text

I'd like to change my settings to have my replies start ABOVE the original message text, rather than below it by default. How can I do this? I use Opera Mail in Linux. Thanks!

Welcome to the My Opera community!

Opera already puts the cursor at the beginning of "on .... foo wrote". So, Opera already starts the reply almost at the top (and far from the bottom). All you have to do is press enter a few times and move the cursor up those few lines and start typing.

However, goto Help -> About Opera to find the location of the mail folder. Then, close down Opera.

In the mail folder is accounts.ini. Open it with a text editor and under the section for the account you want to edit, edit the reply= line. Save changes and start Opera back up.

In this case, you want to add a few newlines "\n" before "on". Or, just see http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=2885866 , which will show how to fix the signature to fit with your changes.

Great! I got the cursor to appear above the original message using your instructions, but now I'd like to move my signature right below the cursor too; in other words, I'd like my replies/forwards to appear at the beginning of each message, including my signature, not at the bottom. Thanks!smile

Add it right in the reply line. I think something like this:

Reply=\n\n\n\n-- \nhaydemon...

(I usually don't tweak these settings, so you'll have to play around with it)

Note though, if you want an HTML sig, I don't know if you can do that. I also don't know if there's a %:sig: key you can use on the Reply= line to tell Opera where to insert the sig you have set in the UI.

Thanks. Sorry for not responding sooner, but I decided to go back to Thunderbird, which also has a calendar function that is lacking in Opera. I guess one can't have everything...awww

Reply=On %:Date:, %f wrote:

should I change it to Reply=line

it seems is doesn't work though...

You're not the only one who wants this. I appreciate that the solution offered here works, but it's not the same as having the option in a menu to choose for yourself. I think it puts a lot of people off Opera Mail.
It was a bright, cold day in April...

I use, Cut/Paste.
Cut the original message & paste it under my sign, but it's very boring use this way every time...
I Hope the Opera Team solves this, but it's a problem that remains for long time ago... sad

PD: I tried the tweak & works nicely! But I use this kind of signature

Do you know how to edit!?
