I need software, that I had on IE but here does not...
Hello:I used to use Ms Global IME Simplified Chinese to put in Pinyin to get it in Chinese characters. Because it does not work on Opera, I have been looking for other "free" software, that has the same functions, so from romanized into Chinese characters. Since I can't find it in search, I wondered if you know such free software that works in the Opera browser.
Thank you
CB.

Hi:
Sorry for my late respons, I had subscribed to this but did not get a notification e-mail. I thank you, this will avoid unreadable signs when Chinese (simplified) text is not normally displayed. BUT, what I actually am urgently looking for is, software that works on Opera browser to type Pinyin ( our western writing) to get it in Chinese (simplified characters. Like on IE it's IME Global for Chinese. I have to say that I still run on Windows Millennium.
BTW: I will repost this message with another title like I'm adviced to do, inorder to get attention of members typing Pinyin into Chines characters on Opera browser.
Thank very much
Bye
Chris.

I've only found out just now, but this is apparently a long standing known issue due to the limitation in the earlier version of MS Global IME for Win 98/ME, of only allowing input in html text area. ( http://classes.yale.edu/chns130/IME/Index.html (See the note at the bottom); http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=21859 ) When I was running Win 98 over 10 years ago, I did use MS Global IME (for Japanese). I remember I had to type everything in Outlook Express and copy/paste. It became somewhat better when I installed Office 2000, which had an option to edit in html documents.
[Addendum]
The web based service Vectronic suggested in your other (duplicate) post ( http://www.chinese-tools.com/tools/ime.html ) seems better than the one I suggested above. The Google IME for Pinyin requires at least 2000, and recommends XP and above, so no good for you.

I'm sorry, Chris. But unfortunately I can't find any free IME that works on ME. You can try a web based IME service (eg http://www.ccli.gov.hk/webime-e.html ), even then you may be confronted with a higher OS requirement.I have been looking for other "free" software, that has the same functions, so from romanized into Chinese characters.

Hello:
Yeah , it seems to be a big problem. I guess I'll have to use the fossy way. Write on an online IME, copy it and then paste it in my e-mail. I don't know whether I can do that too in the exercises.
Thank you
CB.
