Can't browse through the WAP APN

I have been reading the Opera Mini Faq http://www.opera.com/mobile/help/faq/

To be able to connect Opera Mini to the Internet, your phone needs proper settings. In general, there are two different settings: * GPRS/WAP * Internet Opera Mini usually needs the Internet setting, and to use the Internet APN

Does this mean Opera Mini cannot be used through WAP APN, and must strictly have a "full-fledged" internet GPRS connection to use Opera Mini 4.2?

I can browse using the default phone browser using the WAP APN, but Opera Mini fails to connect to the internet through the same WAP APN. I checked with my service provider, and they gave me the WAP settings and I saved them on the phone, but I cannot still use Opera Mini to browse on the phone using both http and socket connections, so I request for further help in configuring Opera Mini 4.2 to use the internet through the WAP APN. My handset is Nokia 2330 Classic.

I noticed that the previous version Opera Mini 4.1 (which is pre-installed in my phone) did not have this problem and I was able to browse through the same WAP APN without any problems using the http connection. Why is the same not working for Opera Mini 4.2?

You said you use a Nokia 2330. This is an Nokia Series40 device.Your are able to configure APN WAP settings but the downloaded Opera Mini Client (Java Midlet) are not able to use the configured APN WAP connection. For this you have to configure a APN WEB connection or use an Nokia Series60 ;-) then it should work.

But I was able to browse through the WAP APN on the same handset using Opera Mini 4.1. Does it mean that from Opera Mini 4.2 onwards, we can no longer use the WAP APN on S40 handsets? Any official confirmation?

Keeping my fingers crossed, and waiting for a reply.

You need to use the .prov file.
I had nokia 5130 before and could browse with inbuilt opera 4.1 but not with 4.2 or 5.0.
I used .prov file and it worked.Give me your internet settings and il make it for you.

otherwise create a .prov file online... google it, its simple..
after creating the file, download it to another phone and send the .prov file t your phone through bluetooth

Thanks for the reply. I've googled it and found it. But one doubt though. After I send it to my phone through bluetooth, will it appear as "configuration settings" and can I delete the file in case I change SIM cards to use another operator's WAP APN?

Can I keep .prov files of two or more operators in my phone at the same time (with one of them active at a time) and switch between them according to the SIM and operator I'm using?

Yes, of course. Opera uses socket connections, which are not allowed in most WAP access points.
P. S. Some providers (eg utel.ua) do not have wap points at all :-D :-D :-D

Wanted to ask one thing, do mobile service providers provide the proxy in the wap settings when we request it to them through SMS? (or, is it possible for them to add this in their wap settings)?
