Latest Opera 10.53 is spooky on my G5 non Intel Mac....
Hi everybody, I'm a all out Opera user since many years. Used to drive it w. 30 or 40 permanently opened tabs for years. My old version recently crashed and couldn't be started no more. Even w. the installation of the latest version it couldn't get started. I used App Zapper to completely remove Opera from my desk. Then after installing the latest version 10.53 again things seemed to work fine.
It didn't take long to realize that even though I'm currently having only about 6 tabs opened, Opera makes my Macs vents whine up once in a while. The app. crushes once in a while w/o any obvious reason.
Writing into text boxes is a mess and really getting on my nerves as it takes loooong to type and a drama to do simple operations like paste and copy. Sometimes Opera just freezes up.
I don't have these kind of issiues w. safri or FF, but I would prefer to keep going w. Opera for all those features I got used to for years.
Anybody knows what's causing these annoying symptoms?
Thanx bunches in advance
Hi akaba,
your problems seem quite typical for this version of Opera. The general advice is to revert to version 10.10 and wait for the next release. (See other threads like "Opera won't start" / "... run" "...execute" "...uses lots of RAM" "...EXTREMELY slow" etc). The problems have probably been reported as bugs already, at least the problem with starting - as I have done that...
Old versions are here, if you haven't kept 10.10 or the dmg: http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=mac&list=all

Hi again, I usually run Version 10.10, but I've been constantly strioked by automatic updates and frequent loss of my preferences, opened tabs etc. once I reinstall 10.10.
10.10 works O.K. more or less. How can I make Opera not to automatically update to the latest version. That's basically what created a lot of problems as it triggers all the above reported problems after a reinstall.
I've neen there numerous times and am sad to be in a state of thinking about moving from Opera to an other browser.
Again, how can I make opera stop to automatically update?
