Way to permanently disable the "previous searches" and the whole drop down menu?
I've been an Opera user for a long time and I've been satisfied with it so far. Yet the recent updates left me with nothing but disappointment. The biggest issue, that drives me just mad, is the whole new quick search system. Not only does it save the recent search results but displays an unnecessary drop-down window. I deleted all other search engines, since I only use google, and I expected the window to turn off. Is there a way to remove these features? I found a solution involving making a certain file read-only, but it didn't work. I don't want other people who use this PC looking into what I do, and if changes like that keep up I might turn to Firefox.
Edit: Not only that, but I've recently discovered the oh-so-nifty "closed tabs" feature. Is Opera even aware of the word "privacy"?
You mean the "clear search_field_history.dat and make it read only" solution? You have to make sure that you're completely closed out of Opera first and dump everything that's on that file. If you empty it and make it read only, Opera shouldn't be able to write anything new in the file, nor should it make a new version of it.
You mean that feature that's been there since Opera 8? That Firefox has long since adopted (I don't know if you can turn it off)? How'd you miss it, the "Closed Tabs" button has always been in the same place.

Use the addressbar. Its the same in functionality and there are a lot more options for it.The biggest issue, that drives me just mad, is the whole new quick search system.
