Middle click on bookmarks in 10.53 is not working!

I have just installed Opera 10.53 on my PC and found that I cannot open any bookmarks with a middle click.
I am aware that someone else posted about this problem not long ago and I too have a Logitech mouse but I use the XP default drivers not their own nor do I particularly wish to install the Logitech software as until now I have never had a problem.
I have read that you can hold the shift button and double click a bookmark to open a new tab, unfortunately that requires using two hands at once which for me is a problem.

Something else which I have discovered in the middle of writing this is that I cannot search from the address bar.

Finally, I tried settinghttps://ssl.scroogle.org/ into the search bar but it will not work, although I have it as my home page without a problem.

Sorry to lump three things together but I did not see the point of opening more threads.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Did you set "middleclick options" in shortcuts section?

You cant search using keywords, for example "g opera blabla"?

You mean you want to add this as a search engine? I just tried it and it works without problems. (Rightclick on the textfield and select "create search".

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it works on links in a webpage but not on bookmarks.
Ideally it would be nice to get the same right-click menu on bookmarks that you get on webpage links.

No. At the moment I am using my Netbook on which 10.53 is also installed and both of the above problems are the same on that. (This is using a different Logitech mouse, V100, the one on the PC is a Pilot.)
The only way I can use the address bar on either computer is to type or copy and paste a complete URL.
EDIT: I have just discovered that it will search if I put in your example but if for instance I enter "Logitech" or "Wikipedia" nothing happens. (I have just tried both.)

I will try this the next time I use my PC. When I tried yesterday I used the manage search engine function. I cannot try it on the Netbook as I have a single toolbar and no search box to save screen space.

When I have tried again I will let you know what happens but the middle-click is definitely not working on bookmarks.

Is Server Name Completion on or off? (Preferences -> Advanced -> Network.) What if you search on two words?

Do you have a default search engine specified? (For me it searches on the default engine if i dont use a keyword.)

FYI
Address https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbwssl.cgi
Use Post, Query string: Gw=%s

When you say bookmark do you mean one on the personal toolbar? Or in the bookmark manager (CTRL+SHIFT+B)? Or bookmark panel (CTRL+B)? Hehe ;-)

It is on, I have tried every combination of the two boxes without any difference.

The default search engine is Scroogle SSL.
This may sound an obvious question but am I right in thinking that the default search engine applies to both the Address Bar and the Search Box?

Address https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbwssl.cgi
Use Post, Query string: Gw=%s

When I saw this I did not understand what it was, however......... having edited the search engine settings I am pleased to say that I can now search from the address bar whatever I enter. Thank you.
If it is not too complicated could you explain how this information is to be found?

I am talking about the drop-down list from the bookmarks icon in the toolbar which I find easiest to use.

I have just tried middle-clicking in the bookmark manager and the bookmark panel and it works in both but I would never have thought of using either as the first means having an extra tab open and the second, especially on a Netbook, takes up too much screen space.
In both FF and IE I just right-click on a bookmark in their drop-down lists and get a menu similar to the one you get on a webpage link in Opera. Is this not possible using the drop-down list in Opera?

If it makes any difference, on my Netbook if I open Appearance/Toolbars I only have two boxes ticked - Tab Bar (which is on the left) and Status Bar (which is at the top. All the buttons that I use are on one or the other, this takes up the least amount of room.

To be honest I have never used any of the search boxes. Explain to me why someone uses one when you can do everything from the addressbar, and more! Plus it saves on space.

Not possible using the menu. (Never was.) Shift-clicking will open links in the background. (That DOES work..)

I completely agree. I never use one either I was just curious.

Thank you for that.

That is a great pity as it would be very useful and Opera is the only browser that I have used that does not have it, might be an idea for future versions?
Shift-clicking is as I said in my first post not really an option for me so I will continue with what I have been doing, open a new tab and click in the bookmarks menu.

Well, thanks to you I know a great deal more now than I did when I started this thread and not just about Opera.
Although I rarely use it I have finally managed to set Scroogle as the default search engine in IE7 as well.

Your help is much appreciated, thank you again.

Just wanted to post I have some more specifics for the middle-click on items in the personal bar.

Any direct bookmarks I have in the personal bar can be middle-clicked and will open a new tab appropriately, however any links within a folder that is on the personal bar I cannot.
