Performance (memory) issues with Opera 10.53

Hi!

I'm experiencing some quite annoying performance issues with Opera 10.53. None of the earlier versions have been a subject to frequent crashes, but unfortunately 10.53 is. Whenever I return to the computer after having left it for a while with Opera open, Opera stops responding the moment I click anything. The only solution, it seems, is to close and reopen Opera. Why this happens, I don't know, but it seems like Opera is using too much memory. Opera's memory usage is actually constantly increasing, even when nothing is happening inside the browser (other than redrawing the pages, which doesn't seem to affect the memory usage in any significant way). It seems like Opera's memory usage reaches a maximum, forcing Opera to stop responding and close down. Please note that this is only how it appears to me, and may not be the actual cause of the crashes. However, there is most certainly a performance issue with 10.53, compared to earlier versions.

When the memoy exceeds a certain limit, the general response in the browser becomes quite slow. When writing in text fields, for instance, the letters I am typing occasionally don't show up on the screen for a brief moment. The next instant, however, all the letters I typed in are there, and I can continue to write normally. This also affects video streaming. If Opera has been running for a while, I have to restart it in order to make the video run smoothly. The same thing also goes for page scrolling.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Opera 10.53?

If it is of any interest, I'm running Windows Vista on a quite decent laptop.

Edit: I made some corrections to the second paragraph. I also see that people have problems with the CPU usage, but on my system, the CPU usage is actually quite low when running Opera.

this issue happens with many including me,a few possible workarounds is to either increase your disk cache/memory cache to say 60mb or have plugins disabled globaly and enabled as needed but they won't always work. the opera cache is very funny at times, it's almost like it has no limit to it's hunger and the longer opera runs the more hungry it gets and the slower it gets,i wish opera would fix it where if you set limits on the cache that the cache would stay within those limits.

Actually, I've only reverted to 10.52, and this does the trick. I have none of these problems in 10.52. The memory usage is still a little bit high, but it isn't constantly increasing, forcing Opera to shut down. The memory usage also doesn't affect the performance of any other tasks I'm running.

virtual memory does increase alot to say 1.5GB or more and the memory usage is around 400mb but then it changes all the time.
