Opera 10.53: Hidden Last Line in Multi-line Text Boxes When Copy / Paste (<textarea>)

Opera 10.53: Hidden Last Line in Multi-line Text Boxes When Copy / Paste (<textarea>)

I have encountered this bug / problem since Opera 10.x across many websites (common example: Facebook).

Copy and Paste this Sample Text:
Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text Text
LAST LINE OF TEXT

Proceed with either example 1 or 2.

  • Example 1:

    Load this HTML webpage in Opera:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN">
    <html dir="ltr">
    <head>
     <title>Blank page</title>
    </head>

    <body>
    <p>
    <textarea style="width:160px;height:90px;font:14px/22px cursive;">
    </textarea>

    <textarea style="width:200px;height:100px;font-family:cursive;">
    </textarea>

    <textarea cols="36" rows="5" style="width:290px;margin-top:0;"></textarea>
    </p>
    </body></html>

    Steps:
    1) Copy and paste the sample text into each multi-line textbox.
    2) Notice that the last line is hidden in each. However, when the text is manually entered into the textboxes, there is no hidden last line.
  • Example 2:

    I use a textbox resizer UserJS, and because of this, I encounter this bug even more frequently.

    To replicate the textbox resizer UserJS, use this JavaScript textbox resizer:
    http://www.switchonthecode.com/tutorials/javascript-controls-resizeable-textbox

    Steps:
    1) Empty / clear the textbox
    2) Resize the textbox
    3) Copy and paste the sample text into the resized textbox
    4) Notice that the last line is hidden. If the last line is not hidden, try again several times using different textbox dimensions.
    5) Repeat steps 1 through 4 until the last line is hidden.

Confirming, but such an effect also happens while typing text into textareas, e.g. of discussion forums: As soon as there is so much text that the vertical scrollbar has to appear, this scrollbar only scrolls a height of one line less than the entered text. As soon as there is a second line more than the textarea height, the behaviour of the scrollbar is correct again.
