INDIA::: Is Tourism safe over Terrorism???

None of us can deny the fact that india is truly a very good tourism place. According to World Travel and Tourism Council, India will be a tourism hotspot from 2009–2018 having the highest 10-year growth potential. The 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi are expected to significantly boost tourism in India.

>The Taj Mahal is one of India's best-known sites and one of the best architectural achievements in India. Located in Agra, it was built between 1631 and 1653 by Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his wife, Arjumand Banu, more popularly known as Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal serves as her tomb.

  • >The Taj Mahal Palace is an icon of Mumbai.
  • >The Victoria Memorial in Kolkata

and many many more are heartthrobbing places...

Several hill stations served as summer capitals of Indian provinces. Many hill stations remain popular summer resorts. Most famous hill stations are:

  • >Mount Abu, Rajasthan
  • >Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh - It is also known as The Queen of Satpura.
  • >Araku, Andhra Pradesh
  • >Gulmarg, Srinagar and Laddakh in Jammu and Kashmir
  • >Darjeeling in West Bengal
  • >Munnar in Kerala
  • >Ooty and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu
  • >Shillong in Meghalaya
  • >Shimla, Kullu in Himachal Pradesh
  • >Nainital in Uttarakhand
  • >Gangtok in Sikkim
  • >Mussoorie in Uttarakhand

Beaches
India offers a wide range of tropical beaches
with silver/golden sand to coral beaches of Lakshadweep.

  • >Beaches of Puri, Orissa
  • >Beaches of Digha, West Bengal
  • >Beaches of Goa
  • >Kovalam Beach, Kerala
  • >Marina Beach, Chennai

  • >Beaches in Mumbai
  • >Beaches of Diu
  • >Beaches of Midnapore, West Bengal
  • >Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • >Lakshadweep Islands

NOW THE MAIN QUESTION ARIZES THAT IS TOURISM STILL SAFE IN INDIA?

We know very well that India,Despite of being a very good tourist spot, India has also been a major target of terrorists target.
Terrirists not only target the local people, but sometimes western tourists become thier major target. Terrorist attacks in Mumbai itself include:

>>>12 March 1993 - Series of 13 bombs go off killing 257
>>>6 December 2002 - Bomb goes off in a bus in Ghatkopar killing 2
>>>27 January 2003 - Bomb goes off on a bicycle in Vile Parle killing 1
>>>14 March 2003 - Bomb goes off in a train in Mulund killing 10
>>>28 July 2003 - Bomb goes off in a bus in Ghatkopar killing 4
>>>25 August 2003 - Two Bombs go off in cars near the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar killing 50
>>>11 July 2006 - Series of seven bombs go off in trains killing 209
>>>26 November 2008 to 29 November 2008 - Coordinated series of attacks killing at least 172.The main targets of 26/11 attacks were western tourists

Kidnappings
The tourists were all befriended by young British Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh who was a member of Harkat-ul-Ansar and pretending to be an Indian by the name of Rohit Sharma. He told them that his uncle had died and left a village for him. He then invited them to visit the village with him. The three Britons were taken to a village near Saharanpur and kept captive there by his associates. Béla Nuss was the last to be kidnapped and was kept in Ghaziabad just outside Delhi. The kidnappers demanded that the Indian government free 10 militants imprisoned in Kashmir and threatened to behead their captives if the demand was not met.

Kidnappings, killings of tourists in india is a very common news. So do we still think that tourism is still safe in india??????

Do you think that its still safe to select india as a holiday sopt?

From the post, he sound more like a Pakistani

Still, Mexico has a large number of kidnapping, violence, killings, and American tourists still visit it
So do places like Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, that doesn’t seem to deter tourists from around the world to visit the countries now does it?!

Terrorism isn't among the greatest risks a tourist in India (or most anywhere else) would face, but there is no doubt it is bad for business in the short run. I don't think tourism in Java has fully recovered for instance.

YOU ARE A MUSLIM? RIGHT?

If we see that "times square failed car bomb case" that happened a few days b4, USA warned pak for all the terrorist activities, not India.

you scolding India then i m sure that u are a pakistani or atleast a muslim for sure.

I went to Goa and ate a lot of curry and snapper fish. I would like to go back.
I went when i was about 23 so just bowled around everywhere eat anything that didn't move, out of any shack, chatting to everybody. Now 34, i'm a lot more nervous when i go away, having been in some crap situations since. (I was bigger and more intimidationg then).

So i wouldn't just go 'anywhere'.
And as far as terrorism in concerned, India is such a big country you'd have to just be unlucky i suppose.

Mind you i think these days i'm a lot more likely to wake up with a hangover, and a fresh bride in tow.

ya... m just asking the concern of u people thats is it safe or not????

That "Merijannath" is dragging topic anywhere else. My guess is 100% correct. "Jannat" word is usually used by muslims only, and so are u too.

I don't know whether it is safe 100% or not, as i don't work for MI5, MI6 the secret service or the foreign office.
When i was going to go backpacking around Thailand and south east asia the foreign office said, no don't its not safe as there are reports that there will be bombings.

British foreign office advise (probably compiled by people who do work for MI5, MI6 or the the secret service) bigsmile :

This advice has been reviewed with an amendment to the Summary and the Local Travel (Southern India) section (cyclonic storm Laila; further weather depressions likely). The overall level of the advice has not changed; we currently advise against all travel to specific regions of India and all but essential travel to other specific regions of India.

But they also say:

•Most of the c.787,000 British tourists who visit India every year have a trouble-free stay. 391 British nationals required consular assistance in India in the period 1 April 2009 – 31 March 2010 for the following types of incident: deaths (143 cases); hospitalisations (95 cases); and arrests, for a variety of offences (42 cases). During this period assistance was also requested with regard to lost or stolen passports (292 cases).

From this website: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/asia-oceania/india

So if i was thinking about going to a certain region i would read this carefully. I would certainly not drive across india in a camper van.

I hope that helps you with your question.lol

I think there's more of a risk of dying in traffic then there is of death by terrorists. Relax, and enjoy your vacation.

I wouldn't reckon India as being any worse than the regular hot spots around the world. Being a big place it is for the tourist worth the risk I suppose?

The risks to the individual tourist are negligible. The risks to the industry are not.

According to a peace index India scores a pretty miserable 128th position out of 149. Better than Congo, Russia, Somalia, North Korea, and Iraq, but not much to brag about.

To (most of) the world terrorism is just a minor annoyance. It is one of many threats to the tourism industry though.
