Opera 10.53 youtube videos look very compressed compared to Chrome

This is a weird issue, compare these screenshots, one was taken in Opera while the second in Chrome, look how compressed and full of artifacts the video is in Opera:

Opera:

Chrome:

This happens with all videos, what's going on? Any clues? The videos also look perfect in Opera 9.64

Pass a link to this video so I can check it out.

It shouldn't be Opera's problem given that they use the same plugin.

You have to watch it on the youtube page, it looks perfect when linked.

Absolutely NO difference between browsers. This is what I see in my 10.53.

Try enabling hardware acceleration for Flash or something... But the video itself is shitty, so it won't help much.

Yeah it looks perfect on your system, the thing is if I watch it here on the page it looks perfect but if I open it on youtube page it looks very compressed.

Right-click somewhere in YouTube > Edit site preferences > play a bit.

Make sure you do not have Opera Turbo enabled. This is designed for people on a bad connection and will over compress ALL videos, images, etc

I often see problems on this forum talking of bad image quality - and it comes down to Opera Turbo.

(Look at the bottom left of your browers window. Find Turbo options. Set these to OFF.)

Didn't know it also messes with videos.

Brilliant that fixed it! I also had Opera Turbo on Auto for some reason but that didn't change the quality of the videos, thing is I don't remember changing any of these settings.

Educated guess... more importantly the OP found their fix on YouTube settings. All good.

All is not well with Youtube for me. I'm running 10.51 and can't get to the sign in screen at all. Keeps saying "setting up secure connection", then "connecting to host", back and forth endlessly. Had this problem once before, fixed it by closing out, emptying cache and cookies and trying again, not working this time.

Suggestions?

Thredjack? Their problem was solved. End of that discussion. If anyone else shares the issue, they'll find the solution before seeing my "disruptive post".
